Bert and I had a craving for mini pandesal...

What better place to get it than at Valerio's....
Lots of Filipino bakery staples on the shelf...This is "biskutso" (aka 'bizcocho', twice baked slices; nice and crisp)

This used to be one of my favorites, Kepeng. This is a crisp but flaky sugared cracker. I think the changed the recipe for this because the cracker is not as crisp and doesn't have that 'crack' to it. It also didn't look 'dark' enough.

Otap - a lightly buttered sugar biscuit...

One the counter, various filled sweets: hopia (filled with either pork or mung bean or ube). My favorite is the hopia filled with yellow mung bean. I love eating the tops of the pastry the most.

More hopya and cream cheese filled buns...

More favorites - their famous pan de sal (regular and mini sized)...

More baked goods - pan de ube and mamon (sponge cake):

My favorite - pan de ube, which now comes in a mini size! So cute!

Above, 'Haba haba' (long long) cream cheese bread topped with sugar and butter and filled with ube! Mmmm! Have some of that with some coffee now!
This was the disappointing Kepeng...

It used to be darker in color and flakier. This was not as crisp as the one's I grew up eating. The Valerio's in Bonita makes it the way I like it. I still do like the brown sugar topping though!

I think they give less pieces in their new packaging as well.
It was nice to visit Valerio's again especially since we were down in the area. As a young kid, I always loved the smell of Valerio's in the morning whenever they had their freshly baked pan de sal!

Valerio's Bakery - November 2011
Since we were here, we decided to pay a visit to the Filipino take out joint next door...

I haven't been to Valerio's in a long time, even though I live near the one in Mira Mesa. I used to like eating monay because it looked like a butt. I know, so juvenile. ;-)
hello IHC!
haha, the monay looking like a butt! I never noticed that before so now I'm tempted to buy some so i can eat it and giggle like a maniac! :)
