Sweet Sisters Bakery

I was in west Chula Vista early this morning on my home from an appointment...

As I drove down 4th Ave, I passed by this new bakery that I'd only read about so I quickly made a u-turn....

Sweet Sisters Bakery and Cafe is on the corner of 4th and Madrona. Since its a holiday today, no parking meter fees, so score!

The view as you walk in (but was taken when I was leaving, heheh)....There is seating as you enter the foyer...

The view from the counter...

They serve cold and hot drinks here as well as crepes, sandwiches, and salads. Note to self - come back for lunch once I'm on vacation!

According to the young lady working the counter, they've been open for two months now...

The cakes and pastries on display:

They also had cookies and various breakfast pastries and on the counter, madeleines, macaroons, and shortbread cookies.

Just a few of the cakes they offer:

The girl gave me a tiny sandwich cookie as a sample which I liked. The filling was chocolate.

They also had muffins, cupcakes, and loaves of sweetbreads.

Tarts and filled puff pastry desserts...

So for 'research purposes, I got three muffins ($1.49 each):

The girl said this was Orange Raspberry (which I thought was an odd pairing). She was wrong; it was Orange Cranberry.

And for Bert, Chocolate Cherry...

For me, the Banana Nut...

We took a few slices of each of the muffins. Bert found the chocolate cherry to be  bit dry. The cherries on top and within were jarred (or canned maybe) cherries since they looked bright red. I would have preferred real cherries in there. The orange cranberry and banana nut muffins were better since they were moist.

I also brought home a berry and cream cheese tart ($1.00), which at the time of this posting, hadn't been sampled yet. I'll make sure to include what we thought of it later on today. While the tart looks cute, there was just waaaay too much crust. The fillings were very skimpy and shallow. And I was wrong, those weren't berries, they were cherries.

They also had tarts of single flavors - berry and cream cheese by itself but since this had both...

To share for later tonight was the Tres Leches Pina Colada cake ($2.99). It may be hard to see but the bottom of the cake was tinted a very pale green. There was also coconut on top. Can't wait to try this one too...

Update - We just had this on tonight (Tuesday) and it's great! The filling is moist, fluffy, and full of condensed milk goodness! The pineapple flavor it relegated to the top with the coconut sprinkles which was a bit weak. I was actually expecting more of the pina colada flavor, but texture wise, we loved this cake.

Today, I taught TC how to make scrambled eggs. On the other burner, I pan fried two cans of Vienna Sausages. Yeah, so what!  We're Filipino. We like Spam, Vienna Sausages and canned corned beef!

I ate my eggs and sausages rolled up in a tortilla. We had a bit of fruit as well.

My breakfast is usually a protein shake and a piece of fruit. For Bert and TC, they usually eat leftovers for breakfast, so this was a bit "fancier" than normal.

Who else went to Sweet Sisters Bakery?

Here is the review that I read a few months ago:

It's sunny and beautiful outside! We're just going to kick back and relax at home. Bert will fire up the grill later! Burgers and dogs 'dudes!!!

Hi Mary,
when i saw their red velvet goodies, i thought of you. it's really cute in there and the girls working there are very nice.

unfortunately the cute tart wasn't as good as it looked. too much crust and not enough filling.
