Ecola Seafoods

Whenever I hear the word "Ecola", I think of "Ecoli".

Not the word you want to associate with good seafood.

Actually, "Ecola" is derived from the Chinook word for whale, which is "Ehkoli".

I was recommended to check this place out by Wandering Chopsticks, so we went here after visit to Haystack Rock.

We wanted just a little something (not a 'full on meal') to tide us over until the next pit stop. Lots of prepared seafood snacks plus chips and crackers.

They also had tins of local seafood and lot of menu options for fried seafood...

We got one of the small shrimp cocktails...

We also got one of their chowders. Here are more of their menu signs (you can check out their online menus here).

Our clam chowder, small shrimp cocktail and a hot chocolate (for TC).

The chowder had a hint of bacon in it. Very thick and creamy with big clam chunks.

The clam chowder hit the spot. I was excited to try another version of clam chowder in another neighboring coastal town. We didn't really get a chance to explore more of Cannon Beach. The main street of town was crawling with tourists taking advantage of the "sunny" weather.

After our little snack, we headed out again, going south on the 101. We made a little stop on the side to check out the view (sorry, no photo of that!). The coast in Oregon is very primal and natural. The waves are not gentle and nice. Rather, they are choppy, rough, and will not hesitate to dash any unfortunate person onto rocks. Our stop was next to Neahkahni Mountain (see placard below).

You are HERE (blue arrow)...

Our next stop, Bay City, but we had to pass the tiny town of Garibaldi first.

As you can see, it was raining on our drive down. From a nice sunny day to this. Such is the life in Oregon.
