The guys in this band probably used a lot of this...

Or maybe it was this brand instead...

In any case, these dudes also utilized their ratting combs...

in order for their hair to rise to great heights during their heyday...
Recognize these fellows?

No?
Well how about now with the BAND name?

Oh yeah, rock those skinny ties and those shiny red suits! Man, their hair is totally puffed up!
The following video features one of my favorite songs by the Romantics.
Not "What I Like About You" or "Talking In Your Sleep", but one that wasn't as popular but I loved it nonetheless.
Formed on Valentine's Day in 1977, the aptly named Romantics fashioned themselves after bands of the British Invasion (like the Kinks and the Who with their slim suits, skinny ties, and sparse instrumentation). They broke out in the 80's and were labeled "New Wave". The Romantics were a little more "power pop" (think of The Knack, Cheap Trick, Big Star, and Marshall Crenshaw).
"One in a Million" was the second single from their second album, "In Heat" (which spawned "What I Like About You"); the song got up to #37 on the Billboard charts. I vividly remember hearing this song the summer of 1983. The radio station 91X was still fairly new and this song was one of the many songs the dj's played on heavy rotation that summer.
This video also depicts 80's fashions - did you see how short those skirts were on those chicks? One of them had a "double wrap belt", which I used to have back in the day. If you click on the belt link you can also see the photos of the "V-shaped Belt". I had a few of those too! I'm tempted to try and find one to wear with my vintage Union Jack muscle shirt! Ha ha!
"When I first saw you
I had a feeling right from the start
in love I was falling
you seemed to do things to my heart
Your love and affection
is all I need to keep my satisfied
You leave an impression
Baby I never wanna leave you
One in a million, baby you're the one
One in a million, second to none
One in a million, a million to one
You're one in a million..."
What I really loved about this song, beside the dreamy lyrics was the cool xylophone break which leads into the chiming guitar solo. Eat your heart out Edge!
