Ryan Brothers Coffee, Lemon Grove + the Giant Lemon and the Lips rock

I didn't realize that Ryan Bros Coffee had set up shop here in this historic Streamline Moderne corner shop in downtown Lemon Grove...

Thankfully replacing Charbucks (which moved down the street as a drive-thru)...

We stopped here for some coffee before getting coffee once again on The Boulevard.  I was hoping that they had cold brew flights as depicted on an older photo I saw on their IG. Alas, the photo was for happy hour and it was more than a year ago. The workers said they didn't offer any flights at all but offered some samples of their cold brew for me.

One was pretty smooth, another was just straight up cold brew (the dark one) while another tasted of peanut butter.  Not quite the "flight" I was expecting. I didn't want a full cup of anything, so I was content with these three samples.

Bert, on the other hand got their PB mocha, served in one of their mugs.  Not bad as a warm drink actually. It was quite smooth and you could definitely taste that PB.

I liked how spacious it was inside. Plus, we had a great view of the giant Lemon, which we walked over to check it out up close afterwards (we last saw in back in 2016.

Right next to the trolley tracks and the folks handing out religious pamphlets.

I live to see stuff like this!

Down the street, beautiful morning glory flowers...

I was hoping the Lemon Grove Bakery would be open. It used to be called the Grove Pastry Shop and closed several years ago.  It has since reopened, but happened to be closed that morning. We didn't want to wait two more hours 'til opening time though.

On the south facing wall, the Lemon Grove History mural (my more detailed post linked at the end):

Near the train tracks.

And I have to make sure to show you this...lips painted on rocks on the exit to Lemon Ave from the 94. It's technically part of La Mesa, but Lemon Grove has claimed these "lips" as their own.  They were painted by a local resident in 1977. Some older photos I saw online have the lips black with fangs for Halloween. Another had a white background with the red lips. Today it was just red lips. Kind of freaky to see this. I was wondering about the history of this roadside oddity.

You can't really stop to take a photo since there aren't any places to pull over. I just asked Bert to slow down as we approached it.
