Sur Coffee, San Clemente

A few days ago Bert had the day off...

so we embarked on a short trip up north...

to San Clemente, Orange County's most southernmost city. We wanted to take a breather, walk around, see the pier, etc.  Above is a rather beautiful Spanish Colonial Revival building with Moorish influences...San Clemente's City Hall which is located at the Eastern terminus of Avenida del Mar.  It is steps away from this coffee spot on El Camino Real, Sur Coffee.

The slogan on the wall seemed familiar.  Turns out that the owner of Sur is also the owner of OB Beans in Ocean Beach. This same slogan is on their walls as well. See it here from our 22nd Anniversary Post from 2017.

Inside seating was limited. There were some folks enjoying the AC in the front area of the coffee shop.  We didn't realize until after we paid that there was a patio in the back so that is where we enjoyed our drinks, albeit in the hot sun.

Their concise menu. The way it should be.

Our two drinks - Bert's mocha with oat milk and my espresso with coke, vanilla and a cherry. This drink was much like the one I enjoyed at OB Beans a few weeks ago. Both are specialty summer drinks that I saw in Instagram.  I was glad it was iced since it was a scorcher today.  The barista informed me that my drink was called the "El Camino".

Yes, paper cups.

Latte art not that great. Service was friendly. Prices were on par for a specialty coffee shop.

This drink, on the other hand was very refreshing. Seems easy enough to make.

Their roaster was in the back, which we saw as we headed towards their back patio.

There was not much shade but at least we could sit down.

From where we were, which was the eastern end of Avenida del Mar, would be a one mile walk to the western end...all the way to the San Clemente Pier which we visited during Presidents' Weekend in 2015 but I had published the post in 2016.

It really was  a pretty day! Quintessential Southern California!

I was happy that we stopped by Sur Coffee. There was another coffee shop, Rapport we visited last spring for the beginning of my epic birthday crawl (located on the other side of the freeway), but we wanted to go to a place where we didn't have to repark, hence, the selection of Sur.  The other coffee spot was closer to the pier but judging from the photos, did a lot of blended drinks (ugh) and not traditional espresso based drinks.

This was one of the nicest beaches we saw (not a lot of gross and dirty seaweed) with a really nice pier. The views are great from either side.  Looking forward to a longer visit in the future...
