The Top Gun House in Oceanside + the Oceanside Pier

From Panels we walked a few blocks south...

to check out a house that was featured in "Top Gun"...

There was a nearby parking structure that we went to to get a view from afar. See the blue house? That's it...

And here we are close up with my arms over the tarped fence and hoping I wouldn't drop my phone and have to trespass to get it back.  But luckily, I did not suffer a case of the butterfingers.  The house is now blue (used to be yellow from older photos) and has different posters covering the windows. The house was supposed to be torn down but was "saved" and now it's supposed to be relocated because the land is set to be redeveloped.

Located at the corner of Pacific St. and Seagaze Dr., this house is known as the Graves House (more info linked at the end), named after Dr. Henry Graves and built in 1887. The home in the movie belong to Tom Cruise's love interest, Charlie Blackwood (played by Kelly McGillis).

Kind of sad that the house is in disrepair. The chain link fence didn't have tarp before, judging from previous photos I saw online. Perhaps it's meant to be a deterrent.

View from the Oceanside Pier. At 1,942 feet, the pier is one of the longest wooden piers on the West Coast.  It was overcast the morning of our visit. Nice and not crowded.

View facing northward.

There is a Ruby's Diner at the end of the pier.

Lots of fishermen (many of them were Filipino!)

View at the very end of the pier.

We are hardly up in the area so it was nice to be able to see it without rushing...

Before heading back down, we took the coast highway south to check out a few places and a cool mural...
