I was happy that Bert and I were able to spend this morning exploring not only coffee shops...
but also a new to us comic book shop that has been here for twenty plus years. Altered Ego Cafe and Hideout was actually our third coffee stop of the day. I'm going to post our coffee crawl out of order because I'm lazy, but just know this was our last stop, ha ha.

Located in a business park on the outer edges of Kearny Mesa is one of the best comic book stores in San Diego. Friendly and helpful staff, large selection of titles (both mainstream and indie) and best of all, has an in-house coffee shop. We met the owner of the coffee place, Beau and had a nice chat with him during our visit.

There are so many rooms inside here.

There is a rack of just released titles right when you walk in.

I ended up getting the Stranger Things comic (Issue 1 out of 4) and picked up the more recent Paper Girls issues.
Behind that on your right is Altered Ego Cafe.

Another view - it's visual overload in the cafe and in the store. Lots of posters, figurines, toys, etc.

Drinks were cleverly named. They only serve their drinks in paper cups here. I get that they wouldn't want to have to wash dishes with real ceramic ware.

I had the iced mocha with hazelnut while Bert had the caramel latte. I liked my drink better than his. I had forgotten to ask for a subsitute milk though (yikes).

While we were here, Bert ended up buying the remainder of the "Chew" compilations. I have them up to Volume 7 and stopped from there. He wanted to finish them off.
The drinks were okay. Don't expect latte art here. The flavorings are from syrups and not house made. Again, wasn't expecting Third Wave coffee shop action here.
Wandering around...Bert saw some titles behind glass that he USED to own and had sold (to Thane). He regretted selling them when he saw how much they were going for, ha ha.

Yes, these:

and this...which I remember when we were in high school. I couldn't get into the Killing Joke.

Flyer advertising the Jamie Newbold's book (he owns the comic book shop). One of the workers told us that the space has grown over the years.

This was a nice way to end our crawl for National Coffee Day.

I'll have to come here again in a few days since the new Paper Girls issue will be released by then...
