whereas during our road trip last Memorial Day, it was still there...
Located two blocks from OB on Sloat Blvd, three longtime establishments were razed for development. According to our hotel clerk, talks had been going on for years but was recently approved this year. Earlier in May, it took just one day to tear down the whole block which included the Roberts Motel, Aqua Surf Shop (which has since relocated to nearby Judah St in the Outer Sunset), and John's Beach Cafe which we had the pleasure of dining at back in August. I was so bummed when I found out the whole block would be torn down because I was craving their banana nut pancakes. Alas, no more. I'm glad I took photos last summer to remember this by.
Roberts Motel (it was on the seedy side but they had some cool street art on their walls):

Aqua Surf Shop (also had great street art):

Uncle John's Beach Cafe (sniff, we will miss you):

Before heading down to the Central Coast which would be our final leg of our anniversary trip, we had a few places on my checklist to get snack/dessert/drink mementoes before we left. First stop, this street...

TC and I noticed these dogs anxiously awaiting the return of their master who went to this neighborhood bakery...

Further east on Noriega...

And a short trek to the Inner Sunset's Irving St. One good thing about going super early in the morning was that parking was easily found and there were no crowds to contend with. We went to a couple of coffee shops (hipster of course, this is San Francisco after all) and another bakery we also liked the first time around.

Somewhere along the 101, we stopped at this McD's where the decor was very unMcD's like...quite mod in fact.

Our destination was here...we'd gone here last summer but only to pass through. This time, we would stay at a nearby inn. This particular evening they were having a concert in park...

where the townspeople were enjoying free entertainment.
As for us, Bert was craving Japanese food so we went to a Japanese place near the townsquare...

where I enjoyed this tuna roll topped with fried garlic chips!
Tomorrow we would head to the seaside town we visited last summer...
