Romesco's once again...

At the stroke of 12 noon, we found ourselves here...

hungry for lunch at what is probably one of the nicer restaurants in the Bonita area...

Our crusty bread which you can also request butter (if you're not into oil and balsamic)...

My co-workers Gambas al Romesco - I've had this before and it is a meal in itself. Underneath all of that thick and chunky Romesco sauce (thickened with ground almonds) are several meaty shrimps. TR ("The Retiree") fished out the shrimp and left the sauce out for grabs so we could dip our bread into it. I could just eat THAT (and those thin fries) with a spoon and be happy!

I ordered two items, one which I've enjoyed before and a newer octopus dish  since I couldn't find the pulpo tostada on the menu.

Pulpo Asada a la brasa (grilled octopus in a light citrus sauce):

Gambas al ajillo - great garlicky goodness!

La Ley and Mr. TJ shared a paella (beware because this takes thirty minutes) which was chock full of aweseomeness (clams, mussels, shrimp, pork rib and chorizo

I had some of that rice and it had a nice saffron taste.

Service was on point here. Our waiters were so very attentive and charming. It also helps that TR is a regular here and they comped our bread (it's usually free for the first plate and they charge for extras). Even her favorite chef came out to greet her.

Previous visit to Romesco's:
May 2015 - when I went with Mr. TJ, La Ley and a co-worker after Senior Awards night for late night tapas and drinks...

I noticed in the bathroom a flyer for the opening of Bracero, the new Javier Plascencia helmed restaurant in Little Italy (he also owns Romesco). It's already opened to much acclaim and Bert and I want to give it a try once the hoopla dies down.

Oooo, that paella looks really awesome! I always love the color of the rice in that dish. Been hearing/reading a lot of things about Bracero. I'll totally just wait on that one. It'll probably be crazy for awhile.
