I finally did something I never did before...
I took the day off on my birthday! Yes, it's hard to believe that I haven't done that before. Usually I work or as it has in the past, my date of birth was embedded within Spring Break. This year it wasn't and dagnabbit, I wanted to take the $%#@ day off. So I did.
Then doubt set in. Who would I hang out with? Almost all of my friends are educators and they had to work that day. A few other friends I considered but had conflicting plans or had to work as well. Bert surprised me the day before by telling me he got the day off so he could be with me.
Cue the sun streaming from clouds, fireworks, what have you. I was so happy that I wouldn't be spending my day off alone like a lonely loser.
Of course, my day off involved a food crawl. Our first stop was a revisit to what is fast becoming my favorite donut shop, Nomad. We had our cooler with ice packs ready...

What we got:

Banana peanut butter chocolate old fashioned, dragon fruit acai (for TC), black currant chili (the darker pink one) and strawberry rhubarb pink peppercorn.

Hellz yeah. Breakfast of champions...

Well actually this was our breakfast. We had one sorpresata and one abruzzese. Both were pressed flat in their panini grill making the sandwiches even better tasting with the melted cheese and toasty bread.

My macchiato with sparking water chaser. Very nice. I read somewhere that you know a coffee place is good when they do that. I've had it this way at Lofty Coffee Roasting Works...

Bert's mocha with almond milk. It spilled a little when he transported to our table at the parklet outside. My coffee was so smooth (but strong) that I didn't need to add any sugar or extra milk or cream or whatever.

Yes...tasty little bites these were.

The lone donut that we tried that morning which had three awesome flavors rolled in one: banana chocolate peanut butter...

It was a great start of this fun day!
Previous visit to Nomad & Calabria:
Donuts 'n Coffee at Nomad & Caffe Calabria", earlier in April 2015 (we went the first day that Nomad started offering vegan donuts)...
I think I may be "donutted" out now...as for caffeine, only on weekends!

I really have to make it to Nomad Donuts!! I was so disappointed in Donut Bar and I feel like Nomad would be the real thing :D
Hi Joyce,
It's worth at least one or two visits. Or ten, haha. Seriously.
Donut Bar sucks so much, it's not even funny. This place has so much more going for it. I love the funky flavor combinations and it's different every day.
Taking a day off for your birthday is the best thing ever! I do it often, hahah. Chocolate + pb sounds awesome to me but I don't know if I'd want banana mixed in haha.
Mary
I'm going to do this every year from now on (if it's on a weekday). Believe it or not, that choc/pb/banana combo was pretty good.
