Lunch and dessert with Kirbie was on the agenda and it would be killing two birds with one stone. If you look above, you will see both of our destinations that day.
I'd read about Embargo from Kirk's posts (linked at the end) and was curious to give it a try as was Kirbie.

Their menu:

My Cafe Cubano...which was a super strong espresso sweetened with Demerara sugar.

It was so strong, I had to add extra milk to it in increments. I really liked this drink and want to make my own at home next time.
We ordered a sandwich to share and two side.

These were the tostones (which I love) - twice fried smashed plantains seved with a garlic aioli. The word tostones is kind of funny since it sounds like "cojones".

The yucca frita which was amazing. It was crisp on the outside and soft and fluffy inside. I could have eaten more of these. What made it stand out what the garlicky sauce it was slathered with (mojo criollo).

The Cubano sandwich that we shared. It was a bit on the salty side. The bread was nice and toasted. The fillings were pickles, ham and cheese and pulled pork.

Like our last lunch outing, dessert was conveniently a few steps away. Again, Kirbie had a couple of good deals (2 for 1 coupons) so we both were able to save a couple of bucks for our cookie purchases.
I got three out of the four cookies below: Toffee Brownie Batter, the "For Mom" cookie (dark chocolate with strawberries inside; Mother's Day was the next day), and the Malahat Coconut Ginger (Malahat is a brand of rum)...

My trio ($4 instead of $6):

Kirbie's trio - One of them was the S'mores Flavor and the Chocolate Truffle. I forgot the third flavor but it had chocolate in it.

Of our three cookies, Bert and I liked the "For Mom" the best while TC liked the Toffee cookie. The coconut cookie was okay but I wasn't a fan of the rum because it tasted like it had some sort of spice in it.
Who else went to Embargo?
Kirk has posted on this place a couple of times (first in January 2014; and more recently, just a few months ago) along with Kirbie's recent post on our lunch...

Previous visit to the Cravory:
April 2015 with TC
I'll have to come back to Embargo again with Bert and TC. There are a few other sandwiches I'd like to try.

Oh man the Cubano looks so good. The bread looks so toasted and buttery for some reason. I haven't had a Cravory cookie in ages. Do they still do Farmers markets? That toffee cookie looks interesting - what is that glaze on top of it?
Hi Faye, I don't l know if the Cravory still does Farmers Markets. The glaze is toffee/caramel.
Glad you got to try EG CC!
Thanks Kirk! What are you doing reading blogs right now, haha!
The third one was chocolate cookies and cream I think. =) Had such a great lunch with you. I like the picture showing both places in one photo!
Thanks Kirbie. I liked our lunch, especially those tostones. I want them again, haha.
I've been wanting to check out Embargo for awhile - your sides look awesome! The bread on the cubano also looks nice and crunchy. I've been to one of the Malahat tasting rooms since it's really close to my work - the entrance is like this little nautical maze before you step into the tasting room - so cool!
YOu would really like Embargo. Try those tostones while yer at it! :) Thanx for the rec for Malahat.
