[Update - Closed as of Summer 2014. :( ]
When I think of Acme, I am reminded of Wile E. Coyote ("Super Genius"):
Ha, I liked how "Family Guy" did that mashup.
This Acme bat costume was also amusing:
I don't really remember that episode. I normally think of Acme Dynamite but couldn' find any videos of the Coyote using it..
Anyways, we're not here to talk about Warner Bros. cartoons, fascinating though they may be.
After our time spent at the bowling lanes over at AMF, we drove the negligible distance over to this place...
Literally just down the street was yet another donut place, Acme Donuts. Hopworks Urban Brewery is across the street, along with the Safari Club, which is a rock and roll strip club. Hey, I looked it up.

Acme doesn't get as much attention as Voodoo, but when I searched popular donut places in Portland, this place popped up, as well as Tonalli's (which we went to on our first day).

They don't have the wierd names or crazy toppings that Voodoo has. Their prices are also lower. They don't do bar donuts but raised and cake. They also have vegan donuts, if that's your thing (it's not mine).

Vibrant colors in here but it was dead. It was around 3 or 4 pm already. Turns out they normally close at that time, which explained their scant supply.

Unfortunately, their cases only held a few trays of donuts. As sparse as the selection was, I thought these donuts looked way better than the freaky ones at Voodoo. They also ended up tasting better.

The guy working there said they normally have tons more but several groups came in and had super large orders and nearly depleted their supply. Over here, once they're gone, they close up and the guy seemed ready to close shop.

Showing admirable restraint, we got only three donuts.

And here they are, later on back at our suite. They are all chocolate cake donuts but with different frostings. One had dark chocolate with chocolate glaze and cocoa power, the pink was cherry and the last one was cookies and cream.

This was pretty good - every donut was still moist. Not dry or tasteless at all. This was TC's favorite, the cookies 'n cream.

This donut was Bert's favorite, the triple chocolate donut. OMG. "So good this was, mmmm", as Yoda would say. We both liked how their donuts weren't overly sweet.

This one was my favorite of all three.

We regret not going here prior to Voodoo. We would have inhaled a dozen easily! I like going to the 'underdog' type places. If we ever go here again, another visit to Acme (preferably earlier in the morning to ensure better selection) would be at the top of our list.

Our next stop was a place recommended by KDB. He raved about a particular item on their menu so we thought we'd stop by to try it out...
