25 Years!

[Update - Closed as of October 1, 2012]

A few weeks ago, Bert and I went here...

for a special gathering...

It was an event to commemorate our 25 year High School Reunion! Can you believe that much time had passed? Holy shizballs!

Below, the craft beefs offered by the Eastlake Brewhouse.

I had a sample of the Otay Lakes Oatmeal Stout. Yeah, I started off with a dark beer. It tasted just like coffee and chocolate!

We met up with Tatonka who was already holding court at the bar. With him were several friends that we hadn't seen in decades!  I was able to reconnect with several old friends...

Of course, I couldn't have my beverage without somefood, so Bert and I shared the Ahi Poke Stack. This was a bit unwieldy to eat since the "chips" (fried won ton skins) were too thin to really hold the ahi pieces. They also served this without soy sauce and I had to ask the bartender to bring me a small saucer of it, otherwise this would have been incredibly bland. Looked pretty but needed a kick. I'm not sure what the two long antennae were sticking out of the stack, but I put them aside (raw pasta noodles?).

Later on, Bert and I shared the Pesto Pizza which had ricotta cheese, caramelized onions, and fire roasted red peppers. The pizza was really good but could have used some meat on it, like chicken, or maybe even portobello mushrooms (yes, I know that's not meat).  Our leftovers went home to TC, who was enjoying the night out with D (they watched the new "Wimpy Kid - Dog Days" movie) and hung out at the local mall.

It was quite a fun time! Bert and I were able to catch up with a lot of our old friends, including my former childhood neighbor, his kindergarten friends, a guy that the girls used to think was cute, and a friend of ours who is now a GRANDMOTHER (of a one year old baby). Some folks came from as far as Texas (one of the few African Americans at our schools who is now a pilot for Jet Blue!), Sacramento (that friend is now a chef), and Las Vegas (that friend and I had the same crush on a long haired surfer guy when we were in junior high).

Unlike our 20 year reunion, this was not a formal sit-down dinner event, but more of a casual atmosphere. Buy your own drinks and food if you were inclined and mingle! Also spotted, Mr. Saliva, the Pyromaniac, the Reunion Organizer, and more to numerous to mention.

The DJ also played some "flashback" music:
Shannon - Let the Music Play
The Jets - Crush on You
Nuance - Take a Chance
The Time - Jungle Love
Madonna - Dress You Up
New Order - Blue Monday
and more that I can't remember...

Ack, five more years 'til the (gulp) 30 year reunion!  Wut!
