Seafood Friday - Week 7, Part 2 - Mariscos Hector's (West Chula Vista location)

Bert drove down too far on Industrial so we had to double back up Broadway...

If you see the Goodwill sign, then you are in the right place...

We hadn't been to Mariscos Hector's before so this was as good a time as any...

What to order...

We got the Pulpo coctel for TC (medium size):

And a few tostadas and a taco for us to share. I think we'll try turtle another time.

The different hot sauces at the table...

Plus chips, salsa and limes...

First up was the Marlin tostada (smoked fish). This was also Bert's time to try Marlin and only my second. He really really liked this. He found it to be quite meaty and not too fishy at all. He liked the texture and the flavor.

TC tried horchata for the first time. I'm not really a fan of this rice based drink but she really liked it. I guess the cinnamon flavor doesn't agree with me, but I did take a few sips to "cool down" my mouth.

Bert and I sahred the Campechanera style tostada - it had scallops, shrimp, and octopus. The seafood looked too raw for my tastes, but it was all right once Bert made sure it was submerged with the lime juice...

TC's pulpo coctel. Compared to the El Pescador food truck, the pieces here were bigger, thicker, and "softer" in her opinion. She didn't like it as much. The "soup" or liquid it was in was not as flavorful either. I think the best one I've tried was the coctel from the TJ Oyster Bar in Bonita and La Victoria's in San Diego (IB area)...

Look at the suckers on that tentacle:

For fun, we tried the Cahuamanta (manta ray) and separated the filling to make two tacos (since we were given two tortillas). The one I tried last year at another Mexican place was manta machaca so the meat was shredded (the name escapes me but it's on Main Street). This meat was cut into chunks. I didn't like it as much and to me, it was too "fishy" tasting. Bert on the other hand really enjoyed this.

Bert liked the chunkiness of the manta ray. Well, now we know how they do it here. We will have to try the Mariscos Hector's in Eastlake like Cathy of mmm-yoso did last September...

This week is Easter weekend. Looking forward to my family's get together (bbq skewers and Filipino food)...
