Mandarin Beijing

My co-workers wanted In-n-Out...

I chose to go here instead...the newly opened Mandarin Beijing Chinese restaurant in east Chula Vista.

The restaurant is right across from Tutti Frutti yogurt which I've blogged about several times. It's also next to Michoacana taco shop. Nearby is In-n-Out Burger, Achiote, and Oggi's.

I wanted to try one of the lunch specials...

I ordered it to go. This was the view from my table. Lots of people came in to get their take out. A few tables were occupied by diners. Because this is a new restaurant, everything is still nice and clean and shiny. The ladies working there were really nice.

Mmmm, duck!

My lunch special - the Almond Chicken which came with fried rice, an eggroll and a fortune cookie. It was supposed to come with soup but I forgot about it until it was too late. Plus, was I really going to eat the soup? But then again, if it's advertised, they should give it!

This was a lot of food and I barely made a dent in it. The almond chicken sauce was pretty bland.  However,  I liked how thin and soft the chicken pieces were. The vegetables were onions, broccoli, canned bamboo shoots, water chestnuts, and baby corn. The egg roll was all right. Nothing too exciting. You know those soy sauce packets the restaurants give you? I never use them. In fact, I hardly season my food with soy sauce, unless I am eating sushi.  I ate this as my co-workers chowed down their double doubles with animal style fries...TC enjoyed my leftovers later that evening and also for breakfast the next day!

Maybe I'll try something else next time because I want a free calendar!
