And the winner of the Ugly Sweater contest is...

Sadly, not me...

Remember the BEFORE photo?

Holy shit, can this be any uglier? This was someone's patriotic sweater vest. Bought for $4.99 at the Goodwill in I.B. I thought I trick it out for the upcoming contest...

I utilized my trusty glue gun and bought a few craft items at Wal-Mart (a flower bunch of  fake Poinsettias, glittery pom poms, candy cane and glitter star ornaments, and even a pair of jingle bell earrings.

I removed the flag applique covered some of the stars with flowers. I glued the pom poms onto the "V" with more flowers and holly leaves at the top. I sewed the candy canes and stars by hand, dammit. When you are old like me (heh heh) with fkd up eyesight, it's pretty hard to thread the needle nowadays. This was a mighty chore for my weak eyes. Due to lack of time, I didn't replace the buttons with red and green ones. However, I did cut out Christmas tree shapes and hot glued those over some of the stars(seen in a few photos down) just to add more "green" to the sweater. This was a size large by the way. Man, it made me look "boxy"!

Also bought at the Goodwill was this velour number. It's not a Christmas sweater nor is it particularly ugly but for Bert's normally conventional taste, this is pretty loud for him.

I found this lovely argyle and Space Invaders looking number for $3.99 at the Veterans Thrift Store in Chula Vista (on Broadway), as modeled by yours truly. This was the ugly sweater we gave away as a prank for the White Elephant. The other gift was a "nice" one, a "Forever Lazy" which is basically a Snuggy with butt flaps that can be unbuttoned! Ha ha. Well, maybe that wasn't so nice after all. You can unbutton the back if you need to sit down and uh...well, you know!

I bought this for TC LAST YEAR (also from the same thrift store) in preparation for her to wear THIS YEAR. Now it's kind of small for her. She was one of the few kids who dressed up. I like how the snowmen's scarves are cut out and have fringe for the full effect. I also loved the snowball pom poms. I actually thought this was cute but too "childish" for TC.

Here's our Christmas Photo (just kidding, maybe not....). You can see my crudely cut Christmas trees. I also added tiny pom poms around the trees. There's a lot of stars on that sweater vest I tell you.

So, unfortunately, my nefarious plan to have the most mofugly sweater at the party BACKFIRED. It turned out that the people there thought it was actually cute (even "pretty")! Wut? I worked hard on this thing! Man, you can never account for other people's taste.

The winner will be revealed at the end of this post.

Now here are the rest of the sweaters from the party. Reindeers are always a popular motif.

Geometric shapes anyone?

The vest was a woman's vest, worn by one of the teen boys.

I actually like the one on the left. The girl in the middle borrowed her grandma's sweater! It had gold sequinned bow appliques!

There's that women's vest again and look, moose!

One of my friend's borrowed one of her mom's sweaters from the 80's. This red and black color blocksweater dress was actually pretty "tame". My auntie (who's now in her 60's) used to dress young back then. She wore tights with heels, had a cute 60's bob, and wore loud tops with blue or green eyeshadow with cat-eye eyeliner. She still dresses the same! Sexy auntie! I wish I still had my sweater dresses from the 80's!

Nice pairing of green plaid with the vest here! His girlfriend's sweater was borrowed from her aunt and featured teddy bears. Awwww.

Bert with the Executive Director of the dance company and of the board members. I'm not sure if her sweater was meant to be ugly or not. It might have been 80's vintage because the knit was "shaker" knit.

Remember the boy with the woman's vest? These were the parents. This is the mom who made the broken glass jello dessert. The guy on her left is her husband who is known as a big joker. They ended up buying their  sweater gear at a thrift store the previous weekend in San Jose. They hit the motherlode...

Drum roll please....

Behold, the winner!

The winner got to pick any gift from the White Elephant gift exchange  even if it had been stolen twice. He ended up not utilizing that "power". His sweater was a woman's sweater as well. I think what swayed everyone was the gaudy gold threads and the loud colors.

Well, I'm going to have to step up my game next year!

I kinda liked your vest. I really like TC's sweater. Yeah, I probably would have voted for the winner since that is pretty gaudy.

hi c - wut? wtf!!!!

tc's sweater was kind of cute, i'll admit but she was horrified but was a good sport about wearing it.

I thought your sweater was ugly hahah! I would never wear that. The "winner" though was pretty bad with that awful gold threading. I've got an ugly sweater in the trunk of my car that I wore last year for my company's ugly sweater contest. I didn't win, either.

well, thank you, heh heh.

yeah, it was the gold thread that did it. that sweater had someone riding a horse on it too! pretty gaudy but it was a man wearing a woman's sweater. he should have worn a man's sweater!
