Amazing Steak Sauce Salmon...

Last weekend we hosted a Christmas lunch with Bert's side of the family.

This was a new recipe recommended by my co-worker who raved about it... Only 4 ingredients...

Amazing Steak Sauce Salmon
(recipe courtesy of "Sam the Cooking Guy")

Ingredients:
1 1/2 to 2 lb fillet of salmon
1/3 cup mayonnaise (he prefers the Japanese Kewpie kind but I used Fresh and Easy brand)
1/4 cup steak sauce
freshly ground black pepper

Directions:

  • Set the oven to broil
  • Mix the mayo with the steak sauce
  • Cover the top of the salmon fillet with the sauce
  • Grind black pepper on top
  • Broil 3" away from the coils
  • Cook for approximately 7 minutes for each inch of salmon thickness. There is no need to flip the salmon over.

I found the sauce to be a little runny and it slid off while it was cooking. I also underestimated the time it would take to cook this. My salmon was less than one inch thick so I thought 7 minutes would do it. The edges were cooked by the thicker middle pieces were still raw on the bottom. I had to put the salmon in a little longer but I lowered the heat to 375 so the top part wouldn't get burnt and I also lowered the rack so it wouldn't be close to the heating coils.

You can see the blackened portions of the sauce (from the broiler). It looked and smelled good but I wasn't happy with how raw the bottom part was. My mistake was not testing out this recipe before actually serving it. Not to worry, everyone was happy to wait for the salmon to cook.  I still like my other easy baked salmon recipe better (salmon, mayo and French onion soup mix).
