Last month we attended my friend's son's birthday party. He turned one so of course, that means a lot of food! Let's take a look shall we?
The one year old birthday party is always a big deal for Filipinos. This party was no exception. I'm starting backwards with the desserts. This table had pan de ube, cut up ensaymadas, cookies, pan de salt. I don't know what the bottle of sweet and sour sauce was there for. The silver crock pot had ginataan (a soupy like pudding with tropical fruits and tapioca balls).

There were several long tables laden with a variety of dishes....You can see the lumpia at the far left. Next to that is homemade embutido (pork meatloaf with raisins, pimento peppers). My friend's mom made it. It's different than my mom's in that the meat seemed "looser" and there were no olives, and chorizo de Bilbao in it. The last tray was cut up lechon.

Another sections of the table included those chicken teriyaki pineapple meatballs from Costco that I love, plus stir fried vegetables. There were two kinds of lumpia...

At the far left, pancit bihon, which was heavy on the vegetables. I liked the long noodles in this one. There was also some beef dish (it was soo good) that was topped with thick crinkle cut fries! FTW! And of course, the salt and pepper wings...

Here's another view of that vegetable heavy pancit...

The theme was "sports" so people were wearing team jerseys, mostly Chargers. That was the day of the Denver game when they lost in overtime. That was a total pisser for the fans there. They were listening to it on the radio at the party (no TV in the rental hall).

My friend's dad was chopping up the lechon in the back kitchen...

See the sports themed plate? They also had sports theme lollipos. Balls. Heh heh. This was Bert's 2nd plate...

Some of the desserts: an ensaymada roll, puto, and pan de ube...

There was also cake but I didn't take photos of that. We had a fun time at the party.

Even though TC didn't know anyone there since most of the kids were pretty young, she got a cool painting from the clown who was doing face and arm painting (I didn't want to type "body" because that would sound creepy).

Mmm I'm craving salt and pepper wings! I think you mentioned you make most of your Filipino food at home but do you have a favorite place for Pancit? A friend was asking.
hi dennis - my mom's. seriously, i'm not really sure because we've only ordered pancit bihon from one place and it wasn't so good, like no meat. i'll ask my friend where her parents got the pancit palabok (it was in the christening party post) and i'll email you the place. that kind of pancit was pretty good!
