It was kind of neato keen for us since we'd never been to a redwoods park before...you know, we're so tree deprived here in SoCal!
One of the placards by this huge cross cut section of a tree...

The trails here are flat and they aren't miles long or anything. It was also nice and cool underneath all the tall trees...

To think that these trees are still considered dinky compared to Sequoias!

Information below taken from wikipedia's entry on "Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park":
"The main section of the park is the home to redwoods, Douglas fir, madrone, oak, and a rare feature of the park, a stand of Ponderosa pine...
The Redwood Grove comprises old-growth "virgin" redwoods, the oldest trees of which are approximately 1,400-1,800 years old and grow to approximately 300 feet (90 m) tall and over 16 feet (5 m) in diameter. Referred to by locals as "the loop," the grove is primarily a self-guided walk—but on most summer weekends, and many other times year-round, free guided walks led by docents or park employees are available. Featured on the loop are unique old-growth redwoods, including one with albino growth lignotubers and the John C. Fremont tree (a tree hollowed out by fire that was once used as a resort honeymoon room)."
Mountain lion warning!

The clover shaped leaves (near the bottom) open up in the sunlight and close up in the shade.

This was a relaxing little visit. I totally want to hug these trees now and start wearing Birkenstocks and eat granola and wear hemp clothes. Omega Mu time! Uh huh. Oh yeah. Riiiight.

But now it's time to GTFO and head over to Santa Cruz!

When I hear the word "Redwoods", I think of Randee of The Redwoods! Remember him? I can't believe he was all over MTV back in the 80's!
I'm not sorry to say that I don't miss this guy at all!
Up next, Santa Cruz.
