Thank goodness it wasn't a weekend. Otherwise, the line would have been out the door!
I got there first and waited for the rest...

The owners were out there greeting folks as they came in. One of them asked if this was my first time there and was happy to hear that a whole group of us were coming. One of my co-workers had been here before with her family. Dennis and I tried going here during our Epic South Bay Food Crawl back in April but the line was crazy long.

Even though I'm not a fan of lamb, I had to go here after hearing how great it was. Even though I didn't get lamb, I DO want to try the Rabbit Mixiote next with with Bert and TC.

Well, why the hell was I even here if I wasn't going to get lamb at all? Four words: Flor de Calabasa Quesdaillas! I've had them before at Ranas but Texcoco also makes them along with Huitlacoche (black corn fungus) and chile poblanos.

Bothof our tables got a trio of condiments (limes, pickled onions with chopped habanero peppers, and diced onions and cilantro) and two sauces (not spicy at all).

Being the lamb pussy that I am, I ended up getting potato flautas. These were way way better than the ones at Don Vicente (also visited during the Epic South Bay Food Crawl). These were the thinnes tortillas I've ever had for flautas. Not those horrible thick corn ones that are in rolled tacos. No, these were nice and crackly thin. The flautas were also pretty long. Although the potato filling was bland, the pair of red and green sauces gave it some much needed flavor and color. Atop the flautas was a bed of chopped lettuce, cilantro, and sour cream.

My other item was the Flor de Calabasa quesadilla (squash flower blossom) which was so delicious. I loved the Oaxaca cheese in there. I should have just ordered two or three of these for lunch!

This was my co-worker's combo plate - You know it could be anything underneath all that lettuce and sour cream. He got a couple of lamb items which also came with lamb broth which he loved because it had chickpeas in it. Maybe if I'm adventurous, I'll try a lamb item next time...

Who else ate at Texcoco?

And since I didn't really get lamb, here's a commercial of theirs that gives you a little more oomph than my lackluster lunch:
Next time will be WABBIT SEASON!
