Que Huong again...

A few weekends ago we had lunch with our neighbors and their two daughters (TC's good friends as well).  I'd taken my neighbor (the wife) to Pho Hiep Grill in Eastlake a week before and wanted to introduce her to other types of Vietnamese food. She told me she was overwhelmed her first time eating Vietnamese food due to the place's extensive menu and her lack of familiarity with the ingredients. I wanted to have her try other foods that weren't Pho or Bun or stuff with rice, hence our recent trip to Que Huong in City Heights...

First up was the Banana Blossom Salad with duck (which has a lot of bones)...

Both she and her husband and the older girl were pretty open to anything. The younger one, not so much. The next dish we spun around on the lazy susan was the Grilled Quail in caramel sauce, which was finger lickin' good!

This was served along with the Pepper Grilled Frog Legs...Tastes like chicken!

There was a fried rice dish we got for the girls which came with beef steak and onions. Hmmmm...!

We got two orders of the chicken wings, one Tamarind and one Fish Sauce. I don't remember which was which because they look the same.

Our neighbors liked the Tamarind flavor more than the fish sauce. It was a bit sweeter and it was a flavor they were more familiar with. I prefer the fish sauce flavored wings more.

And if that weren't a lot of food already, we ordered the beef, shrimp, and squid plate that you grill yourself with a table top grill.

Just look at that butter melting away! Not pictured were the rounds of rice paper for making wraps with the grilled meat.

The older girl was so excited. She called today, "Exotic Food" day and took a lot of photos (budding food blogger?)...The men did the grilling duties while TC and I demonstrated how to make the wraps.

Despite only one person (the younger girl) who didn't really eat much, everyone enjoyed the various entrees. Jay was there as well and made sure everyone was happy. If you've ever been in Que Huong before, he has a lot of money origami decorating the trees in there. Well, his friend and co-worker who makes them was there that day so Bert had a nice chat with him about his creations.

Until the next visit...Maybe I'll be brave enough to try the sea snails, deer, and crocodile next time!

Wow, everything looks delicious! I've only ventured out of the pho and bun once, in Hawaii. I'd totally be up for this meal! I might even try the frog legs.
