which got put on the back burner and are now just being churned out, heh heh...
Last winter, I took advantage of my days off to visit some of my favorite coffee shops which were offering unique drinks. This was S3, which had a cute sleigh and a tall and thin wintry tree in shades of pink, white and gold with handmade lasercut ornaments. Cuteness galore.
One of their new drinks (but now gone since the season is over) was the Nutcracker latte. It was a toffee amaretto foam topped latte served with a hand dipped white chocolate and cacao nib pistachio cookie waffle.

As usual with the drinks at S3, it tasted as good as it looked. I love that they also make their own nut milks here (this didn't have any but just saying).
Last December Astroboi and I met up at Rudford's - his choice. We had already gone to Lucky's Golden Phenix and since he'd never been here...

Holiday paintings (not Dano) were on all windows of the restaurant. Free parking for cusotmers too so you don't have to troll for parking on a side street.

We kept it simple. I am not very exciting when it comes to breakfast choices.

Our breakfasts with our toasts:

Three sausages with eggs and hash browns (not worth $10.95):

His chicken fried steak with two eggs, O'Brien potatoes ($13.95) - I liked his potatoes. His chicken fried stead had the gravy on the bottom of the steak.

When I got the same thing in 2015, it cost $11.95. I remember liking it especially since the gravy was not smothering the top of the steak. However, I liked the chicken fried steak at Manna more.
I believe Astroboi liked his food but wasn't really wowed by it.
Fun with money folding!

The turkey from Thanksgiving was still on their window!

We did a few other runs that day, such as thrift store shopping at several places in Point Loma (that will be a future post one of these days)...
Before heading back, we stopped over at Embargo Grill for some Cuban appetizers.

Cucumber salad (not sure how Cuban this is), tostones (fried and smashed plantains), croquetas (mashed potato ballz filled with beef) and yucca fries with garlic sauce.

I liked this the best.

These, not so much. I had ordered them before with the Educator GF's and had forgotten that they were served with a red sauce which I didn't really like.

Vegetables to make it seem like we were eating semi-healthy.

These tostones seemed bigger and flatter than I remembered them. The sauce was also not that great. Really, mayo and ketchup? WTF. I was hoping it would come with garlic sauce.

We enjoyed the snacks more at Embargo than our meal at Rudford's (we didn't finish our food and didn't even want to take our leftovers home if that gives you an idea). Well, we gave it a try and as long as it's been around, we just weren't feeling it for our old school diner breakfast that morning.
Previous visit to Rudford's:
June 2015 with TC
Previous visit to Embargo Grill:
February 2016 during KD's birthday crawl
Looking forward to more outings in 2019 with Astroboi!
