Julian daytrip 2018 + Lunch at Pete's BBQ & Burgers, Ramona

This post is late, like many of mine, ha ha.

Our Julian visit was during Veteran's Day. Along with us was TC's friend who is a boy...

Since it was Veteran's Day, it was pretty dead on the roads to Julian.  We stopped by here first to take a look at the vistas before heading into the town.

Nice!

Many spots were not quite open. We walked around separately to take in the cold mountain air (there was also a bit of wind gusts that day)...

Main Street;

Mom's Pies:

Our first food stop was the Candied Apple Pastry Co. where we bought eclairs, a bear claw and a pecan roll.

We nibbled on a few things before putting the sweets away. We were here for pie dammit. Down the street was the Julian Pie Co.We would end up going here and to the other location later, ha ha.

Why yes!

And yes to these too!

Decor at the booths:

We were four. We shared two pie slices - one regular apple and the other Dutch crumb. Both had cinnamon ice cream on top. This is the one of the few times where I will actually eat ice cream on top of pie.

We also got one each of the apple cider donuts - chocolate, plain, cinnamon sugar and maple.

Of the four, I liked the chocolate the best, followed by the plain and the maple. Not a fan of cinnamon sugar.

Back to the Cider Mill which was finally open. Bert and I tried a sample of their raspberry wasabi mustard (not too bad actually with those sesame sticks snacks) and ended up getting cider - hot apple for him and cold raspberry cider for me.

Samples:

The kids were on their own for an hour while we walked around. They ended up getting candies at the local store and looking around a few gift shop. We didn't stay too long in Julian actually. We wanted to leave early so we could avoid the crowds. Lunch would be in Ramon. But first, Don's Market in Santa Ysabel so I could buy some apple cider.

And also one of these breads. The real Dudley's bakery which was next door, was closed on Mondays.

That almond coffee ring was pretty damn good!

Cider (photo taken at home) - I can't drink too much sweet juice nowadays. I ended up diluting this with water or sometimes soda water for a little bubbly excitement, ha ha.

Julian Pie Co. in Santa Ysabel is just across the way from Don's Market. We got a pie to go over here. The line was long but moved fast.

The crumb top apple pie:

This lasted about two and a half days. I have to admit, I ate more of the crust than the filling.

Lunch was in the town of Ramona. Bert found a BBQ place he wanted to try, Pete's BBQ. It is located in the back of Ramona Liquor store.

My beef brisket sandwich plus Bert's pulled pork.

Both of our sandwiches came with fries, had a nicely toasted bun and a generous helping of bbq sauce and coleslaw.

My beef brisket was okay. Not as good as Coop's (nothing can beat Coop's). The onions were kind of overkill.

The brisket was not as tender as I would have liked.

TC's boyfriend had the Philly cheesesteak while she had mac and cheese topped with pulled pork.

Heart attack foods.

Below - apple nut muffin from the second Julian Pie Co along with apple pie crust cookies (shapped like apples and covered with cinnamon sugar).

Bert ate this before I could have a taste (insert sad face here).

Our day trip was short. We wanted to get back home before 3 pm. The kids also wanted to hit up the skate park before it got dark. He was teaching her how to skate in the bowl. One of these days, we'll have to go to Julian to go apple picking. Next fall!

It's hard to go to Julian and not have one of some sort. I believe Mary has a post in apple picking. I haven't tried it here myself.
