cute figurines revolving in a music box...
The Rose parade is a tradition that I look forward to, especially after having seen progress of the floats through Cathy's many informative posts over the past year. Check out her posts on the float road tests # 1 and 2 (this posts links the float road tests $3, 4, 5 and 6) as well as their recent decorating earlier last month.
TC was still asleep. She had stayed overnight at her friend's home; many of her other friends visiting from college were also there and they stayed up playing games. While she slept, Bert and I went out after the Rose parade ended early due to a float malfunction.
We ended up going to Cafe Moto for our morning coffee before having an early lunch. No lines when we got there and crowded when we left.

My capuccino and Bert's mocha with Oatly (oat milk). Loved his mug which had a retro look and feel.

The cappuccino is the next size up from the cortado and macchiato. It's still a bigger drink than I'm used to but I wanted to try something different today. They always do their drinks so well here, plus, my drink came with a chocolate biscuit!
Over in City Heights, we thought we'd get lunch at Saigon. Turns out that everyone and their mother were there too. There were still a few spots left and we were seated at the front corner window where we saw ongoing construction at Hoover High School.

There was also this sign informing customers that they should be aware of what they're ordering since they cannot be refunded or have their meal exchanged due to ignorance. Also, note the "do not take the chopsticks" sign. I guess they don't put them on the tables anymore until you get served.

Bert and I had the same proteins but prepared different ways. This was his chargrilled beef (wrapped around a green onion) and shrimp over bun (vermicelli rice noodles).

My dish was the banh hoi - also vermicelli rice noodles but pressed into sheets and cut into rectangles. I really like this preparation and how it comes with a generous plate of fresh herbs and vegetables and even fruit (pineapple). So fresh!

The meat portions were generous. I ended up saving a few pieces for TC. We also ordered chargrilled shrimp and egg roll bun to go for her (no photo). We should have checked the box before we left because when we opened it at home, it was shrimp paste wrapped in bean curd with egg roll. The wrong damn thing, but she still liked it thank goodness.

Lots of leftovers to enjoy for later.
I'm too lazy to search for my previous visit to Moto (so many visits, I can't keep track), but here is my revious visit to Saigon:
June 2018
Bert and I ended up watching some episodes of "Frontier" on Netflix (yes, Jason Momoa!), which is pretty brutal but with gorgeous shots of what is supposed to be Canada (but filmed in New Foundland)...
Happy New Year and I hope everyone enjoyed the first day of 2019!
