Return to Golden Hill Cafe + Dark Horse Coffee & Por Vida

Trying to catch up on previous unposted posts folks.

I'm finally getting around to posting these pix from last year...

These were from December 2017 during a breakfast outing at Golden Hill Cafe with Bert.

French toast for him with sausage and over easy eggs for him.

Patty melt with fries for me plus sparse carrot sticks and a torn up iceberg lettuce leaf. Perfunctory vegetables, eh.

I love the architecture here (see older posts for more on the exterior) which is Streamline Moderne. Service is always nice. Prices not the cheapest  but not exorbitant like some popular hipster brunch spots.

Love the giant cutlery on their walls.

The rounded windows are a hallmark of Streamline Moderne design. Supposed to look like ship portals.

Even the font on their menu is an echo of its Art Deco design.

I didn't have the healthiest breakfast but sometimes I get cravings for these patty melts. It's like a burger but on grilled rye bread. Fries are from frozen, but I like those!

On a more recent visit with a good friend on an overcast day...

I got the same thing - patty melt (ooh, more carrot sticks this time) while my friend  got an omelette with chopped ham with hash browns.

Her hash browns were pretty good. Nice and crisp crust it had.  She wasn't a fan of the thick shredded cheese on top of it, which wasn't really melted either. :(

Same as before - comfort diner food.

Meat, cheese and grilled onion. Can't go wrong with that.

My friend and I had coffee at Dark Horse down the street. The bones of this structure are a former gas station, can you tell?

Salted maple latte for her and a cortado for me.

We also made another caffeine run at Por Vida in Barrio Logan. She had the dulce de leche latte while I had an iced horchata latte.

More milk than I would have liked but I wanted to give it a try. Iced this time as well since I had the stronger coffee earlier.

I swear I'll get something other than a patty melt for my next Golden Hill Cafe visit.

Previous visit to Golden Hill Cafe:
December 2016

I'm not going to both linking my last Dark Horse and Por Vida posts - have been here so many times and am too lazy to find them, to be honest
