TC was out with the boyfriend and Bert had a craving for pizza...
which led us to Caffe Calabria. We hadn't had pizza here in quite awhile (since 2015 since I last checked) and since they make great drinks, it would be a two-fer. No need to go anywhere else.

The pizza chef was there that night and he was quite friendly. I believe his name was Leo and he had a really cool accent. We were ready to order a pizza on the preset menu, but we saw the chef's specials and decided on that instead - we ordered both the salad and the pizza special (although the pasta special sounded great as well).

We chose to sit in the back where the roaster was. A private party who hadn't yet arrived had the main table reserved. We sat at a two-top table and enjoyed the separation between the main room and the back room.

Roaster wasn't in use at the time.
The salad was excellent - arugula with a really light lemon honey dressing. There were some tomatoes, artichoke hearts and freshly grated Pecorino Romano cheese. So very refreshing.

The Napoletano stye pizza had thinly sliced potatoes, fennel sausage, creme fraiche, sliced green onions and a cheese called 'grana padano' (a hard, slow-ripened cow's milk cheese similar to Parmigiano Reggiano)

Bottom line - it was delicious. The ingredients were well balanced. The blistered crust wasn't too burnt. The pizza was served whole and we were given a pair of shears which Bert utilized to divide into slices. Since this style of pizza tends to get soggy in the middle. I ended up folding mine to eat it. I could have also used a fork and knife but I'm more hands on.

Our drinks were - Mocha in the front for Bert and the Bicerin in the back for me. This is a traditional hot drink from Turin made with espresso, hot chocolate and Nutella and milk.

OMG, this was so good! I need to do this with Nutella at home!

Overall, a great dinner capped off with excellent coffee drinks.
Back to those figurines on top of the pizza oven early. They included a few baseball players, Pinocchio, the David statue and curiously, the Buddy Christ from the Kevin Smith movie, "Dogma"
Here's a quick vid that explains the Buddy Christ:
"Catholicism Wow!"
Previous time we had pizza at Calabria:
June 2015 - I can't believe it had been this long.
Glad we did this revisit. Tribute is awesome of course, but it was time to go back to a neighborhood OG.
