Portland Day 4 - "Eat my shorts" or Bart Simpson in etched in concrete

This morning's pop culture stop...

is brought to you by Bert, who found this ...

while figuring out our walking route to the Portland Aerial Tram (that post coming next).  One the sidewalk near 18th and Salmon St. is this concrete etching of Bart Simpson.

See the mud on my boot? Courtesy of the muddy trails at La Tourell Falls the day prior. I had actually cleaned off most of it with wet wipes, but some still remained.

So one would assume that Matt Groenig, creator of Bart Simpson as well as the Simpsons, did this himself.  This misattribute is listed in many online mentions of this concrete etching but I found one that exposed the real creator. More on this later.

Lincoln High School is just beyond this wall. This school, is in fact the alma mater of Matt Groenig himself. Their mascot is the Cardinal.

"Eat my shorts!"  - This Bart Simpsons quote is actually an iteration of Bender's quote from "The Breakfast Club" (Judd Nelson's charachter).  Bender is also the name of the rude (but funny) robot in "Futurama" (also from the genius that is Matt Groenig).

Lincoln High's bleachers and football/track field.

and now Bender, after being confronted by the dick principal:

Here is an informative post about the origins of the Bart Simpson etching, which in fact is NOT done by  Simpsons creator Matt Groenig, but rather, Pulitzer Prize winner illustrator Matt Wuerker:
"C8 Bart Simpson, Who's your daddy?" PDXCentric (no date given but comment to this article was dated January 2016)

plus this spotlight on Matt Groenig (with a mention to Matt Wuerker as well):

We would ride the Portland streetcar to get closer to our next destination, but ended up walking most of the way...
