Portland Day 3 - Cloud City Ice Cream

Not too far away was this,

a colorful mural which signaled our next stop...

at Cloud City Ice Cream. Sadly, not a Star Wars reference.

Gotta love this super 60's strip mall sign. Very pointy!

Cloud City Ice Cream is a shop specializing in handmade ice cream, just like that other more popular shop (cough, Salt & Straw).  No lines and just as good!  When I read their story, I was moved.  The owner bought a defunct ice cream store seven years ago when her mother was diagnosed with cancer. She sought to recreate the same desserts/flavors her mother used to make. Sadly, her mother passed before the store was opened; the store is the owner's tribute to her mom.

You can choose cup or cone and one scoop can be up to two flavors.

The choices have a mix of your traditional flavors but with a twist, along with some fanciful ones thrown in.

TC's epic cone had two separate flavors - Unicorn and Circus Friends.

Mine was the Marionberry crisp with caramelized banana while Bert had the  Sasquatch tracks with butterscotch. The first flavor had fudge ripple with peanut butter cups and cocoa curls.  He loves anything butterscotch as well but the fact that the first flavor included another one of his favorite flavors, PB, was a plus.

Look at that marionberry goodness mixed with mascarpone ice cream and oat crisp pieces.

The Unicorn flavor  had red velvet cake pieces with strawberry jam while Circus Friends had those pink and white cookies in a vanilla/birthday cake base complete with sprinkles. I think I just got diabetes from typing that.  My daughter may be 17, but she is still attracted to these "kid" flavors.  The young gals working here were so very nice and cheerful.

Magical indeed.

My two flavors were quite excellent. Bert thought the same for his.  TC's flavors were interesting. I liked the "unicorn" flavor better than the circus animals.

Down the street was Red Fox, a Portland thrift store chain, our next stop...

Our plans were pretty much "go with the flow" before trying to view some waterfalls later on...
