We passed by the fairly new Harry Higgins Boiled Bagels next to the Columbia Sportwear Outlet....
and found that Bertie Lou's (self proclaimed home of "Portland's Best Mediocre Breakfast since 1943"). If you can't tell, the place is pretty small and there were people inside standing, most likely waiting for a table. We did NOT want to wait, so off we went to see what else was around.

Nearby was a food pod called Piknik Park. This sidewalk sign caught Bert's eye, ha ha.

Of course we had to stop. There are about eight or nine food carts, some of which were open. The beer place, most importantly, was open. It also served vegan food, which TC really wanted (she got mac and cheese). I, on the other hand, went to the Malaysian food cart near the front of the pod.

There is a separate seating area next to this which had heat lamps. We stayed out here since there was also heat from some fire thing next to the tables. Sorry, can't think of the name, but you can see it.

One of those shakers held "nutritional yeast". Yumm! Not
The food cart of my choice. I selected the spiced chicken bites bowl with a side of sweet potato fries.

Bert's Stormbreakers Red Ale and the aforementioned vegan mac and "cheese". I don't know what they used for the fake cheese, but it tasted...decent. TC really liked it, but us...not so much. Don't get me wrong, it was not inedible but it could almost pass for real mac and cheese if you were hungry and wolfed down your food without tasting it.

It's never too early to have a beer for breakfast. Or an early lunch.
"Fire! Fire!"

That's a famous Beavis and Butthead quote long forgotten until now.
The spiced chicken bites were pretty damn good. Thank goodness the skin was attached, providing great flavor. There was rice on the bottom which soaked up the chicken juices. A nice bowl with great texture from the cabbage and the scallions. The spice came from the jalapenos which I avoided. The sweet potato fries were a hit; the side sauce was tamarind mayo (the tamarind presence was faint to be honest).

See, I can also be "spontaneous". This trip wasn't as overly planned as previous. I didn't have any plans for stops so TC came up with a plan. Had it not been busy, we would have gone. However, we were still able to find something close by with this food pod in the middle of a neighborhood. There was something for all of us, which was nice.
A great "snack" for now....there would be more fun stops later that day.
