Spring Break Trip 2018 - Portland: Day 2 Highlights

Our hotel was within walking distance to downtown and the Pearl District...

our first coffee stop was at this establishment...

known for their excellent customer service and for serving their espresso (I chose the flight) in Glencairn whisky glasses! Nice!

Not too far away was an artisan bakery, one that I meant for us to try six years ago but never got around to.  This time, we stopped by and picked up a few savory bites to enjoy before our next outing...

Which was here, one of the highest points in the West Hills (Tualatin Mountains)...we were pleasantly surprised to see this white stuff, ha ha!

On a more clear day, you could see mountains.

There wasn't that much snow but enough to make us So Cal folks excited.

We were back in time to walk downtown to watch the March for Our Lives rally against gun violence near the Pioneer Courthouse Square. This was a nationwide event (some of TC's friends went to the one down in San Diego) that we wanted to witness first hand...

This sign was in memory of the 17 students killed in the recent shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High on February 14.

We stayed for a little more than an hour before heading back...

Crossing one of the town's any bridges, we were back in the Belmont area at a beloved video store/movie memorabilia museum. This place was one of our "repeat visits"(we didn't do too many of those)...

A few steps away was the cutest coffee shop with a most interesting drinks menu (I can't wait to post what I had)...

followed by a trip to the Hawthorne neighborhood to try this Portland based donut chain known for using fresh and local ingredients. We didn't try this the last time either so now here we were...

I do have to say these were probably the best we had on this trip (and we tried at least three other places).

Thrift stores were on the agenda per TC's request...

followed by pizza at a local spot in the Cully neighborhood, chosen by Bert....

We were the only Filipinos (and Asians for that matter) in this joint!  But no matter, service was matter of fact. Folks kept to themselves.  They played great music here with cool decor.

We'd already done many of the touristy stuff back in 2009 and some in 2012. This vacation would be more about exploring the various neighborhoods....
