It's been SIX years since we took a trip by plane!

It has also been six years since we were last in the Portland (aka PDX, City of Roses/Rose City, Rip City, P-Town, etc)...
It was great to be back!
I asked Bert..."Hipster breakfast or normal breakfast?" Six years ago we did hipster breakfast at Pine State Biscuits on NE Alberta.
Normal breakfast won out. I had pre-selected a Portland based chain restaurant which shares the same moniker of the human nemesis of Bugs Buggy to give you a clue. They are known for these (see plate in foreground). This restaurant chain has been a Pacific Northwest favorite since 1960.

By the way, it was 41F here and cold AF!
Our next stop was a local park on top of a hill boasting normally great views of the city (when it's clear and as you can see, it was not)....

The fortress like walls you see were a WPA project...
In another neighborhood was our first coffee was at this Native American owned and run shop...

followed by an impromptu stop at a Portland old-school donut shop. Voodoo what?

That's a RASPBERRY fritter you see there. Last one too!
Plus more hot drinks and made fresh to order mini doughnuts (yes, the real spelling) at a hipster joint in the NE quadrant. We came at a good time. Short line plus one of the last few tables snagged.

I suppressed my inherent hatred of all chai flavored things in the name of blog research.
You're welcome.
In the same neighborhood was coffee stop #2. It was the building slightly left of this shed featuring a mural of the Purple One.

We still hadn't checked in to our hotel/apartment suite, which was the same place we stayed in six years ago). After crossing one of their many iconic bridges (this was the Fremont), we bought some groceries and sundries at a local Fred Meyer store...

We would be here for a week and planned to make the most of every day...
See those skies? It was expected to be the same EVERYDAY plus lovely drizzle (actually the rain here is pleasant and light unlike the aggressive rain down here) with highs in the high 40's and mid-50's No sunshine or beaches for this family during our Spring Break!
