St. Patrick's Day - Coffee + art exhibit, breakfast, throwback design cap + capirotada

The weekend started off gloomy...

and rainy, but that didn't stop us from getting out for our weekend coffee...

We kept it local to Project Reo Collective, where we ordered two lattes while waiting for our breakfast burrito to be made next door.

We enjoyed the new art installation by Optimus Volts (see his website here). There was a sign warning guests not to touch the artwork and for good reason.  The sharp jagged edges you see on many of the pieces are made of shredded metal, specifically spray paint cans.  There was a large mermaid (not shown), a flower with a skull in it, a winged skull as well as a hummingbird. Everything was for sale ranging from pieces costing $60 up to $600.

It's He Who Must Not Be Named!

I took the lids off. Mine had latte art but it got messed up because I wasn't careful. I had a mocha (in the foreground) while Bert had a honey cinnamon latte. Both drinks were made well and were drinkable in terms of it not scalding your mouth when sipping it.  Some places do it up wrong like that, not here.

We noticed their new caps on sale. It was a limited edition design, mimicking the layout (but not quite the font) of  the mid 80's San Diego Padres logo.  He liked that the "C" was a different color just like how the Padres did it back then.

Bert ended up getting one ($25); he figured he would be wearing it pretty much everyday during our upcoming trip to the Pacific Northwest. He wanted to represent the South Bay.  He would definitely be getting his money's worth if he wears this at least 25 times, ha ha.

Our breakfast burrito, which we ordered before our coffee, was ready by the time we came back. We had been chatting with Fabian Gil, one of the baristas at PRC (cool guy by the way).

It was pouring when we got our burrito which had everything we like in breakfast (sausage, ham, eggs, cheese, andpotatoes). It was served with two sauces; the green was much hotter. I stuck with the red.

Not as fully packed as the version I had at Su Pan which includes crispy hash browns, but still as tasty.

Later at home, our to go order for TC (who slept in) - five rolled tacos with everything on it. It's not on the menu, but the young lady there said they'd made it for us, which was nice.

I had a hair appointment this afternoon and during the time my hair was processing (my streaks were re-bleached and applied with my favorite Manic Panic After Midnight blue dye), my hairdresser and I had a quick snack.

She had a huge tub of capirotada, a Mexican bread pudding traditionally made during Lent.  This tub, she told me, was full several days ago. She shared much of it with her friends and neighbors. I felt fortunate to try her version of this dessert.  Everyone has a different recipe which will depend on which region of Mexico they are from. She is from Morelia and makes her capirotada the way her mother made it, with fried bolillo bread, slices Coitja cheese, homemade molasses (from piloncillo), prunes, apples, and raisins with peanuts provided some crunch. She does not put cloves or other spices in it (like another version I've had).

She said she likes eating hers cold, so I did too (I preferred it this way because warm desserts are not my thing).

Enjoyed with tea and honey...

These cute handmade knitted shamrocks were knitted by one of the parents for TC's recent sports banquet.

I wore these shamrock and rainbow socks (bought for $1 from Target last year):

and finally wore this silver foil design shirt, picked up from United Records in North Park. I bought it several years ago and had forgotten about it, until TODAY.

I used the "cartoon" filter on my phone for this shot. My hair is two inches shorter now. This is the longest it's been in years.

Our dinner - Slow cooker corned beef brisket with potatoes, onions and carrots (hiding at the bottom) and Guinness.  Towards the end, I added the cabbage.

In celebration of St. Patrick's Day, here's a clip from the Oscar worthy flick, "Leprechaun in the Hood" (the evil Leprechaun is played by the great Warwick Davis):

OMG, I just realized that's Ice-T at the end! Hilarious!
