Crossing the Sellwood Bridge to this quiet neighborhood...
for a coffee shop known for their beverage flight and taste pairings and coffee "mocktails".

Back across the river was a beautiful and lush century plus old garden overlooking the Willamette and nearby Milwaukie. It's not as well known to the public as the more popular gardens. This place was also free.

See the spire? That's St. John the Baptist church in Milwaukie (home and headquarters to Dark Horse Comics and Bob's Red Mill).
Breakfast was TC's choice and was supposed to be at a local cafe that proudly proclaims that it serves "Portland's Best Mediocre Breakfast since 1943". That particular spot was tiny and we could see as we drove by that it was packed inside.
Instead, we happened upon a local food pod...

This was first breakfast (really this was just a "snack").
Second breakfast, errr, "snack" was in the Woodstock neighborhood at a place established in 1922. They smoke their own sausages and you wait in line while a variety of sausages are being grilled.

Maybe about a block away was a cute ice cream shop. Salt & Straw who?

It truly was magical in here...

They split their scoops for any size much to our delight. Lactose be damned.
Nearby was a fab vintage store.

Great selection of VHS tapes here, I must say.
Later that afternoon, we drove the farthest out from Portland to see a few waterfalls.

We only saw two. This was one of them:

The road to all falls above Bridal Veil, including Multnomah were closed due to the aftermath of the Eagle Creek Fire last fall. A 15 year had started the fire September 2nd by throwing fireworks into a canyon. The fire raged for weeks and destroyed over 48,000 acres and costing over $20 million in state and federal expenses. He recently "apologized" for his mistake, was found guilty of 12 misdemeanors, will be on probation for five years and sentenced to nearly 2,000 hours of community service.
Sadly, because of this stupid boy's prank, many parts of the Gorge are shut down to the public. The Historic Highway is closed off because many sections are unsafe and unstable. People cannot hike or visit these sections. On googlemaps, that section of road had red dotted lines. Bert and I had originally planned for us to go up to Multnomah Falls and work our way down. When we saw the red lines on the map, we read further that it would be closed until August 2018.
On our way down the highway, we made a quick stop (a "revisit") to Vista House, located on a promontory overlooking Mirror Lake.

Here is the westward view towards Washington state. You can see snow on the distant mountains...

The sun came out for a little bit that afternoon. The days were warming up slightly as in mid 50's. The wind wasn't too bad this visit either, unlike six years ago!
We were getting tired so it was time to head back.
Dinners weren't spent out by the way...we wanted relax and to just make our own meals (some breakfast and all dinners) in our room.
