and I remembered this mural next to the Jack in the Box...
where 30th dog legs into Upas Street. The mural is about one year old and was part of the Sea Walls: Artists for Oceans art program where dozens of artists painted messages about ocean conservation all over the world. In San Diego, many of these murals went up including this one by street artist Lauren YS (not her real name) on the west facing wall of Cardamom Bakery & Cafe.

Entitled, "C02 Kills Mermaids", which focuses on ocean acidification, due to the world's"newly Co2 rich atmosphere" which kills life in the ocean from kelp beds to creatures within. The earth's C02 levels are the highest they've ever been. For more info about the rise of carbon monoxide, check out this link here.

The sky was overcast and thankfully, no harsh shadows were case against mural. Just know that the muted colors in my photos are much nicer looking in person.
I was pleasantly surprised to know that Lauren YS is the same artist whose work is seen at Trade Winds Tavern), an Asian gastro pub of Balboa Avenue. The mural below is called "Nomi".

Another mural, "Deathsquid" is inside the restaurant.

We stayed only a few minutes to snap our photos since I parked in the Jack in the Box parking lot and didn't want to take up a space for too long. There are more murals created for Sea Walls including the one by Glow on the side of Pop Pie which I posted on last year. We were glad to see beautiful art work with a meaningful message behind it.
