Cold ramen + Happy hour revisits @ Gunco Ramen

It's been so hot lately...

and I wasn't feeling it for eating anything hot at Gunco...

although my friend La Ley opted for the shoyu ramen with bbq pork...

I selected their seasonal cold ramen, which is really a noodle salad with a variety of toppings (corn, radish sprouts, and slivered amboo shoots, eggs, cucumbers, fish cake, tomatoes, and ham slices). The dressing is a light ginger soy and it is delicious. The clear bowl it was served in also highlighted the ingredients and as an added plus, was chilled, making this a refreshing meal.

The smear on the lip of the bowl was hot mustard.

On a more recent visit...

We headed over to Gunco to take advantage of their happy hour prices (most items are $3.95)

I chose one item from Chef's Specials page...

Does this eggplant look fried to you? I was kind of disappointed by this.  The eggplant was scored and sat in a cold and slightly sweet broth with mushrooms and thinly sliced scallions.

Not on the happy hour menu were the fried oysters. In the past, the oyster trio did not include the shells. It seemed kind of unnecessary to me to place fried oysters on the shells.  These were inhaled within minutes after being dipped with tonkatsu sauce.

Bert's spicy tuna roll and my salmon skin hand roll. The kitchen was getting slammed; people were waiting awhile to get their orders (both for Gunco and Kanpai); the rolls were on the sloppy side and fell apart.

Bert's Chanpon and yes, once again, the cold ramen for me.

This was quite the satisfying bowl for him...everything is pretty much in this bowl of soup.

I loved the springy noodles in the cold ramen.

Last visit to Gunco where we tried the cold ramen:
September 2016

I really like how they composed the bowl and how it wasn't overly dressed with sauce.  I like my noodle salads not to be drenched, this was just right...

Hope the weather cools down soon enough...
