Summer Road Trip - En route to Carpinteria

Finally...the start of our Carpinteria posts...

(strip mall with Starbucks and El Toro taco shop at the Red Hill Exit, Tustin)

which happened in late June but am just posting about now...

Bert and I were solo this time since TC had a summer arts camp. She left the day before and we left in the wee hours of the morning.

We usually try to time our arrival in Tustin by 4:30 am which is when the Starbucks at the Red Hill exit opens up, which means we leave at 3 am.  Yes, pretty damn early, but we were able to bypass most traffic.

The Starbucks is usually Bert's first coffee of the day plus a convenient bathroom stop.  No Cream Pan this time since they wouldn't be open 'til 6 am and we had things to do.

The sun was barely coming out as we passed by the Citadel outlets on the 5.

We would exit to the 101 (which is on the left hand side of the freeway). Carpinteria wasn't that far away but we planned to make one stop at another town before getting there.  The way we decide? We look at a map to see where we've been before and where we haven't. Very scientific.

Downtown LA skyline as seen from the passenger seat...

It was going to be a long but fun day, maybe with a few unplanned stops...

I hardly play it by ear, but this time, we kind of did that! ((gasp of horror or surprise))

We would get some good coffee over in the town known for a family who doesn't deserve attention on reality TV...
