My nephew drove and parked near this wall (the "North Park" mural on the side of a furniture store).

The blank slate straight ahead used to have street art on it...
In fact, here is photo of the day it was being painted by artist Joachim Ixchalli. This was back in the summer of 2014 when TORC and I did a foodcrawl.

Here is another photo from 2015. It includes the dark blue outlines that the artist painted on top of the flat panes of color.

Since then, the mural has been graffitied over the original art work. I'm not sure exactly when it was painted over, but there you have it. The wall is now a blank slate for whatever comes its way.
I know I have a photo of the original store front somewhere, but I can't seem to find it. For now, this one from end of November 2016 will have to do. You can still see the shadow of the former signage.

Actually, I DID FIND ONE but it was taken while I was inside Hammond's Ice Cream when they opened Summer of 2014:

The anal retentive side of my loves documenting buildings, signage etc. It's so true that you never know how long things will last. Especially with North Park gentfrifying rapidly over the years. The historian in me can't help but take photos of places no matter where I go.

Lady of the Lake's fb page is still up but comments dating from November 2015 stated that the store would be closing. There were some nasty comments about how some customers did not like their policy of handing over bags/purses/backpacks at the front counter while you shop. I did think that was rather odd but rolled with it that one time I did go inside.
Anyhow, back to today's events. So, we were walking, I saw the blank wall and then looked to the left and saw that more posters of the soon to be tenant for the Lady of the Lake space. It will be the new Nomad Donuts and Cafe.

Wow...It will be so much bigger (see this article about Nomad's expansion from SanDiegoVille)
My sister and her younger son (Nephew #2) are into Poke and wanted to give the new Poke One and Half a try. I didn't even realize a second location was here in North Park (the first one is in Kearny Mesa). The other timesTC and I have had poke have been with my sis and her son (San Diego Poke Co). I saw that it was next to City Tacos...which of course leads me to this next related tangent...

Because, of course, I had an older photo of the former storefront when I did my exterior shot for City Tacos. a gift shop called Kaleidoscope.

I'd only been in it a few times and never bought anything. It's only a matter of time before Yog-Art closes.
It's not that large in this narrow space although there are a few tables outside where you can see the dinosaur mural on the west wall of the now defunct Wang's.

"One and Half" in different languages. Tagalog is the first language listed!

Reclaimed wood is everywhere.
As in the other poke shops, bowls are done assembly style. Pick your size of bowl which will determine how many proteins you can include, then choose the sauce, fillings and toppings. The price was on par with the other shops I'd tried. The topping selection was not as extensive (no hot Cheetos here, ha ha) but had good choices.

Service was nice, friendly and efficient. They have to be so they can get the line moving.
Our three bowls. TC and I shared one bowl (TC and I shared since she had eaten earlier).

They all look pretty much the same but the protein was different for each one. You just can't see it underneath all of the stuff piled on it. This was ours - salmon and Krab. They called those toppings brown rice puffs, but they looked like Rice Krispies to me. TC picked all of the toppings which you can figure out on your own.

My sister's - underneath were the shrimp, tuna and salmon.

Nephew's bowl - Hidden was his tuna, salmon and Krab. He also got rice as a base. My sis and I both opted for salad greens.

As we headed back to the car, I looked to that formerly painted wall once again...

It'll be painted again in no time, I'm sure.
My sis also wanted to see the Prince mural in Normal Heights (my previous post linked at the end). It's on the west facing wal of Dink's Barbershop.

Again, cars were blocking the mural. It would be nice to at least have a photo not taken at an extreme angle. I saw some pix on IG of the mural unblocked and it looked so much better. An overcast day would have had better and more even lighting as well instead of the mural being dappled.

Down the street was Dark Horse where we enjoyed some drinks before picking up dessert.

I like the Beavis and Butthead t-shirt spoof.

TC's Kefir soda - She said it wa really refreshing but I couldn't bring myself to sip it. It had a funky sour odor. She said it was like drinking carbonated yogurt. All the more reason for me not to try it. Sorry, but I am just not into kefir or even kombucha.

My icced maple latte with almond milk - one for the road.

Not shown was my sister's cappuccino, which was served in a paper cup so a photo of it would have been unexciting anyways.

Our last stop was a few steps away before hitting the bridge over the freeway...
