Last meal at K-Pasta

A few days ago, Cathy of mmm-yoso sent me a screenshot from K-Pasta's facebook.

They were going to close...but would reopen soon under a different concept.

Knowing this, we decided to come here for lunch  one last time...

We found out during this visit that they had a new'ish back patio, which was built last June.

Their prices have gone up over the years.

In front of this giant board was a cold case with dessert. There used to be two tables with cushions/pillows. Not sure when they got rid of the seating.

Their pasta "samples" (to look at, not to eat raw):

The back patio had a huge chalkboard wall.  Chalk was available for guests to use. This must have really nice during the summer. It was chilly during the day of our visit but there were overhead heaters. The back patio is still somewhat open to the elements since it was not fully enclosed.

Our garlic bread and salads:

TC had the supergreens pasta with olive pesto (there were leftovers) plus the spinach pasta with garlic butter sauce  and a mozzarella stuffed meatball that Bert and I shared. For $1.50, we were able to "go big" (their term) so we did.

Nothing beats homemade pasta.  Our sauce was a bit on the oily side (thanks to the butter). Bert chose the sauce; I would have chosen tomato.  The meatball was pretty big but didn't have as much mozzarella like they used to do.

Both pasta meals were delicious although the olive pesto was a bit overkill. There were copious amounts of it and I was actually surprised TC ordered this.

We will miss K-Pasta!

Here is their Jan. 13 post on facebook:

To our loyal fans…
After a great deal of discussion on what is best for our family we have decided to close K-Pasta. The last day as K-Pasta will be Sunday, January 29th. It has been an incredible 5 1/2 years running this crazy circus of a restaurant. We put all of our energy, passion and love for simple, healthy, delicious food and amazingly people walked through our doors everyday. K-Pasta has become bigger then we could have ever imagined thanks to all of our incredibly loyal costumers that have become our extended family. We have built life long friendships with our coworkers and we have built a strong knowledge of restaurant ownership…including all of it’s numerous ups and downs.

We thank every one of you for the dedication, and for all the compliments you have given us through out the years. We will miss seeing your confused face when you walk in our door, your delighted face when you taste our sauces, the casualness as you grab a table, the sweet kids faces when they gobble up the pasta, the confidence when you are a pro with ordering, the excited military men and women’s faces after returning from overseas, and the look of satisfaction and happiness when you walk out our doors. Plus we will miss the freshness of hand made pasta and sauces…

However, we are not leaving 13th St! We will soon open a coffee bar and cafe in it’s place. We do intend on carrying on our passion for whole, scratch made food. Except now we will be offering healthy, soul-satisfying breakfast and lunch. We plan on being open Monday - Sunday from 6am - 2pm. We will continue our loyalty program and honor all gift cards. We will launch our new website, giving more detail, and announce our opening day very soon. Please feel free to contact us with any concerns or questions at info@k-pasta.com. We look forward to serving the IB and surrounding communities with the best quality ingredients and service. We hope that you continue to support us on this new, (and very scary), venture.
With great gratitude,
-Kraig and Annie Kirsner

Previous visit to K-Pasta:
August 2015

We are looking forward to their "reincarnation" as a coffee place. I'm wondering if it will be Third Wave/hipster.  In any case, we will make sure to visit once they open.  K-Pasta was great while it lasted.
