RIP Florence Henderson

I was really bummed when I found out the news...

I grew up watching reruns of "The Brady Bunch" in the 70's...

Any latchkey kid with an "electronic babysitter" watched "The Brady Bunch", me and my siblings included.  Yes, we wore clothes similar to theirs. Bell bottoms, short dresses, and all that. Even though the show was pretty white bread, we liked watching  this 70's sitcom time capsule. There are so many favorite episodes - Peter's voice changing ("When it's time to change") , The Brady's go to Hawaii and Greg steals the tiki and bad luck ensues, Peter Brady thinks he's boring so he changes his voice to sound like Humphrey Bogart ("Pork chops and appleshauce...."), Marcia meets Davy Jones of the Monkees, and so on!

The lovely Florence Henderson, also known as "Mrs. Carol Brady" passed away today.

Before she was Mrs. Brady, she acted in several Broadway plays in the 1950's, was the first woman to host the Tonight Show (wow) and was recently seen on "Dancing with the Stars".

I remember when she used to do commercials for Wesson oil!

Florenence Henderson also appeared on Wierd Al's video parody of Coolio's, "Gangsta's Paradise", which was "Amish Paradise".  She shows up at :31.

That was pretty funny and unexpected seeing her in this video. I liked the milk churning scene.

It's hard to believe she was 82 years old.  She certainly didn't look her age.  When Barry Williamson aka "Greg Brady", wrote his book, "Growing Up Brady" in 1992, there was a chapter that mentioned that he went on a date with his on-screen mom, which was really a dinner date with a peck on the check, not some lascivious deal. OMG.  But yeah, even her own TV-son found her attractive. She really was a pretty lady who had a great sense of humor, as seen on the shows she was on and on talk shows that she appeared on. The TV-show, "The Brady Bunch" will always have a fond spot in my childhood.

For a look at the Brady House, check out Darlene's post from 2006:
