North Pole Snow Cream

A few hours of vegging out, napping or whatever you want to call it...

and we were ready to go out again, this time at a local mall for dessert...

North Pole Snow Cream in the Burbank Town Ceter this is...It's next to Zoogama, a place that rents out these motorized animal bike things. We saw mostly little kids riding them but there was an occasional teenager. The animals were cute, pandas, bears, puppies, etc.  Looked cute with little kids on them having fun. They don't go that fast but I'm sure some overly excited kid has probably bumped people.

We were here because we didn't want to go to Chocolate Chair in Koreatown, a trendy dessert place known for a dessert called "Dragon's Breath". Well, guess what, this place has their version and it was only five minutes away from our hotel. It's on the 2nd floor near Macy's.

The dessert consists of these fruit flavored corn puff balls that have been infused with liquid nitrogen. The liquid itself is pooled at the bottom of the cup, but evaporates within minutes. There is a warning not to ingest the actual liquid (duh!).  It cost $5 for the cup. Let's put it this way, it's good for sharing with folks with a major sweet tooth and a high tolerance for tooth sensitivity.

The dessert comes out in a cup which is "smoking" from the liquid nitrogen. You are given a barbecue stick to spear each puff ball. To get the full effect, you put the whole piece in your mouth and bite it. The "smoke" will come out of your mouth AND your nose as you exhale.  The flavor itself is like eating fruit loops but in corn puff form.  I personally did not enjoy the flavor and I didn't eat it properly, according to TC. I just speared mine and took a small bite, so no "dragon breath" effect for me.  I should also mention that you could order "dipping sauces" (chocolate, caramel, condensed milk) on the side for this but we chose to get it plain. If you want to see video of people eating this, it is easily googled.

The taste is overkill after a few bites. I only had two. Bert had maybe four or five pieces. TC had the rest but regretted it later. She said the corn puff kind of cut the roof of her mouth and because it was cold, kind of "freezer burned" her. It also made her teeth really sensitive.   I don't know if this happens to everyone but those were the sensations she described to me.

Next to that overhyped "dessert" was their "snow cream", which is finely shaved snow. Bert chose pistachio flavor and the toppings were caramel and mini chocolate chips.  This I could eat.

Much better...

Ha, you can see the cup was already frosted over.

I felt like a sucker for even getting this but TC really wanted to try it after having seen it online. There was a group of young teens at the table next to us cracking up and recording each other (probably for their instagram or snapchat) as they exhaled smoke from the dessert.
