Albondigas from Los Primos

Yesterday I was feeling out of sorts, achy and sick. For the first time in 10 years, I did NOT attend the PASACAT Parol Festival which bummed me out to no end...

Too lazy to cook and willing to drive out...I headed off to nearby Los Primos in San Miguel Ranch for an item they have for a limited time during the holidays...

And that item would be their Albondigas or Meatball soup.

While I was waiting for my soup, I got a few condiments plus chips from their condiments bar.

The soup was in a pretty big bowl and it really hit the spot. I had my choice of either flour or corn tortillas (I chose flour/they gave me three wrapped up). The soup was piping hot and there were four big meatballs in there with a lot of potatoes but not any carrots. It didn't "match" the picture but still tasted good. I wish they had some cilantro to sprinkle on top or something.

Rice in the meatballs...

I love this lady's video. Even though it's in Spanish, the recipe itself is in English and she demonstrates step by step how to make the meatball soup. She puts "calabasitas" (Mexican squash, similar to zucchini) in her version. I like that since it adds more vegetables. The version I had at Los Primos was potato heavy.

I saw on the youtube sidebar that she has even more videos on how to make other Mexican favorites!

Pevious visit to Los Primos (San Miguel Ranch):
August 2009

I can't believe it's been that long since I'd been there.

I noticed in the same complex a "Halo Halo" store that hadn't yet opened....

Interesting!  It's right next to Mea Kwan, a Thai place that I will never go to again due to their shitty service, poor attitude and sub par food. Several bad experiences over the past few years with co-workers and the family soured me on it. Like the time they didn't put shrimp on my dish and when I asked about it, they took it back, and "added" the shrimp and proceeded to tell me that it was "there all along" and that I didn't check it well enough. Really, now! WTF.

Anyhow, it'll be interesting once this place opens. I would probably go at least once but then I can make halo halo anytime I want for a lot cheaper...
