Dessert @ Pappalecco, Kensington

Earlier this evening, Bert and I did the unthinkable...

We went out on a weeknight!  {{{Gasp}}} Shocker, I know, but hey, we wanted to live it up so...

off we went to Kensington to have dessert at Pappalecco on Adams. TC had track practice and attended a school play with her friends. Date night?

Sort of! I had a birthday coupon to use which stipulated that the birthday recipient could get a medium gelato with a purchase of $5 or more. So hellz yeah, here we were.

As for a drink, Bert had the Maarocchino (Nutella with coffee? Yes, please). I didn't want to commit to an actual coffee drink since I didn't want to be wired. I know they have decaf but I don't like the flavor of it.

Gelato choices...so many of them.

I ended up choosing the same flavor as Bert's coffee, the Marocchino.

His coffee was served in a glass mug which showed off the layers of the coffee, frothed milk  and topped off with cocoa power (surprisingly Bert had real milk and no substitutes) and the Nutella. It looked so cool the way they layered the ingredients.

For dessert, I chose the Crostata Nutella; the gelato was fully packed into the cup. See the candle? I blew that %$&^ out once. Thought I was done.  It lit up again!

I had to blow it out several times and Bert ended up pinching the tip of the candle with water moistened fingers.  Damn, did they give me a trick candle or something?

The gelato was coffee flavor with chocolate streaks in it. Loved it and would get it again in a heartbeat but sadly, milk and I still aren't friends.

The crostata nutella had a lovely buttery crust. The nutella layer was pretty thick and solid (I wonder if it was mixed with something else inside?). The top layer was in a lattice pattern; I'm sure it looked quite nice as a whole dessert.

A few bites with the gelato was a perfect dessert for our night out.

It was this outing was prompted Bert to take me out tonight. My coupon expired next week but I wouldn't have had time to go this weekend (plans with Astroboi on Saturday and CAB on Sunday) PLUS I hate crowds and didn't want to deal with lack of parking because of this festival.

I'm so crabby, heh.

A short stroll a block away led us to this market. I didn't take too many photos inside, but this is a market that sells organic foods (produce, meat, cheese, etc). They also have a deli counter and an in-house restaurant. The kitchen was already closing up (it was already 8:30 pm). KD told me that she sometimes buys her lunch here (or at Pappalecco). We made a mental note to come back in the daytime to try their food offerings.

The only two items I bought at the market tonight was this bottle of cold brew on Nitro (it was already pre-sweetened too) and a jar of chicken bouillon paste. I like using it to season soups and also rice pilaf.

Previous visit to Pappalecco:
March 2016

We'll have to try that Napoleon puff pastry dessert next time. I had my eye on that...and maybe another flavor of gelato.  Our server was a super nice and charming young lady named Beba (she is Venezuelan; Beba is her nickname) who really welcomed us during our visit.  It took a few minutes for us to get helped since no one was at the counter.  I noticed that there were a lot of workers there, a greeter, and several busboys. Beba seemed to be the most helpful as well.  In any case, we were glad she was there that evening.

One more month until summer break!
