I find that even cloud cover makes for better photos (no harsh shadows as with sunlight). The sun would peek out now and then...

The ladies hadn't been here yet and I was curious to try something new...
at Le Parfait Paris, one of my favorite dessert shops in San Diego.

Their desserts are displayed exquisitely under glass and taste as good as they look. Our selection...

Ludi's macaron (which was recently enjoyed by Kirbie at the new Liberty Station location). Inside the raspberry studded raspberry macaron shells was a silky pistachio cream center.

Le Parfait cheesecake - This was D's choice; not too sweet and just right.

An almond croissant - TORC noted that it wasn't as light and fluffy as others she's had; this one is more dense but intensely rich tasting.

Now this was a dessert I hadn't seen before, the Paris Brest, so I had to try it, birthday girl and all. I'd only seen it in the pictures of a book that TORC gave me several years ago about French desserts and design motifs that resemble said desserts throughout Paris. I was curious about the Paris Brest and read that it was created in 1891 and named after a French town of the same name known for the Paris-Brest bicycle race. The choux pastry resembles a wheel; the filling is a delightful praline cream.

More please.

The Jessop's clock is over 100 years old and is a designated landmark in San Diego. It used to be located outside of the first Jessop's jewelry store but was moved to Horton Plaza when it was built in 1984. There used to be a Jessop's jewelry store in the mall, which is where I bought Bert's titanium wedding ring. The store has since moved to Little Italy.

Previous visit to Le Parfait Paris:
Last year, also for my "pre-birthday" when I went out with Bert and TC
I'm so glad that we can just validate our parking ticket at Horton Plaza without having to buy anything (free for the first three hours). I remember buying gum out of desperation before at the candy store!
We had one last stop for my birthday crawl before calling it a day...
