we added more miles to our teenaged car as we made our way up...
We took photos of a traveling couple and in exchange, they took our family photo...

TC was as happy as a clam because she got to sit in the front. Sometimes she feels carsick in the back so to prevent any barfing, we had her sit up front, especially since some of these roads were quite snaky and windy.

As for me, it was quite freeing to sit in the back and veg out!
We were heading towards the Pygmy Forest at Van Damme State Park. Poor drainage and lack of nutrients in the soil has caused these 100+ year old trees to be stunted in growth.

There is a wooden walkway which you must follow since there are no "trails" which you can veer off on.

There were placards throughout the forest which detailed the variety of tree species here.

There were some taller trees, but I imagine they would've been even taller had the soil conditions and chemical makeup of the land were more viable.

We were the only ones here during our visit, which made it quite peaceful.

There's not a lot to say other than to let the photos speak for themselves. It was a cool stop and a way for us to stretch out our legs since we still had more driving to do.
Who else went to the Pygmy Forest?

We spent about an hour here before heading even further north. Our next stop would be a seaside town reminiscent of Cape Cod. We had a recommendation to follow up on and another much needed rest stop...
