Virgin of Guadalupe 2015

Third year doing this...

(T-shirt seen at a tourist shop somewhere in SF)

showcasing images of the Virgin of Guadalupe on her feast day...

By the way, Deftones is an American alternative metal band from Sacramento founded in the late 80's.

The first VOG of 2015 was spotted in Bay Park Coffee...

The painting was actually very tiny. I loved the colors!

A pendant from a Botanica-type store in DTLA earlier this year. The window was dirty. It was next to a sculpture of a dog (hence the leg/paw).

I forget the name of the street (I'll have to look it up) but it runs parallell to the 5, north of the Cesar Chavez Parkway exit in Barrio Logan. Can you spot her?

Unceremoniously placed ear the catfood at Otay Farms Market in south San Diego:

While the image of the VOG remains largely the same on these prayer candles, I like how the borders are different..

Target even has the candles!

Love the gothic stained glass arch...

Incense sticks at the Dollar Tree:

The "Surfing Madonna" in Encinitas up close instead of just driving by:

Banner in Encinitas

Bracelet from a garage sale in North Park:

Handmade decorative box (same garage sale):

Beads and Pendants.

I already added jewelry  bails to the larger squares and to La Sirena (mermaid). The smaller rectangles will need very fine wire or elastic to string through

Prayer card that I found at the San Ysidro outlet...

The Meshuggah Shack (which is in a shipping container) in the East Village:

Instead of a "heart", there is a cup of coffee!

Gate from Randyland's "Phantasmagoria", Echo Park, Los Angeles. I haven't done my full fledged post yet, but it'll happen...eventually!

Also at Randyland, the VOG in glass bottle form (each bottle is filled with colored water) and affixed to rebar with wire. This was quite spectacular to see especially with the morning sun illuminating the bottles...

Liquor store on W. Temple St., Echo Park/LA

In LA, the VOG is pretty much on the side of every Mexican owned market. I love it!

Tin banks from a discount store in Echo Park...

LoG Market, Echo Park/LA.

Moreliana Pan, my favorite panaderian down South.

Catholic store on Bonita Rd.

Quinta de Guadalupe exterior (South San Diego). This is a gated building. This is where Mr. Andrade's memorial service was held (the owner of Oasis Ice Cream). What is interesting about this stained glass image is that it is a reverse image.

At Back from Tomboctou in Normal Heights...there are so many VOG items like these tiles and a business card holder (pic under the glass).

The mini vignettes are called "sorpresas" and hail from the small town of Ilobasco in El Salvador. I have the Christmas tree nativity scene.

Keychains that  I bought for $1 at the 99 & More store in Chula Vista (it's near Los Pollos Cuban Bakery). This  particular keychain features Juan Diego, the peasant who saw the apparation of the Virgin Mary. He is shown holding the cloak (or tilma) in which roses miraculously appeared. The back side of the keychain is the flag of Mexico.

More trinkets...

and a candle with both Juan Diego and the VOG.

More banks...

and keychains...

At the local Dollar store...

plus handmade cards and postcard that I bought from Studio Maureen earlier this year...

At another Dollar Store...this one had a flower border.

And the most recent VOG as seen at the new Graciela's Taco shop in Bonita (it's near the Sunnyside Post Office) in the same shopping area as Hans and Harry Bakery.

The tiles are are even more beautiful with the handmade wooden frame.
