which took us up to the Mira Mesa area...
I was actually looking for bun noodles (thin rice vermicelli) and on our way out, we had to stop by the cart selling chestnuts. You usually see the chestnut sellers in front of certain Asian stores during this time of year. We got the $5 bag and the lady filled it up nicely for us. Before we left, she offered us one freshly roasted chestnut which we ate. Shells were discarded in a box under the table.

A few of the chestnuts were enjoyed at Donut Stop just a few doors away. I figured, we may as well maximize our time up here.
We got only four donuts and enjoyed the Taglish conversation by several tables of old Lolos. It was like listening to my uncles and dad talk shit. It was so funny. I could totally understand what they were saying too!

Chocolate old fashioned for Bert, glazed twist for TC. Blueberry for all of us and a new flavor for us to try, Apple Cake.

Apple cake (bottom) - nice and crisp and with real bits of apples in it.

The blueberries may be fake but the apples were real!
Lucky Seafood (chestnut vendor also seen at Seafood City in Mira Mesa and Chula Vista):

Get 'em while you can! I remember seeing them before at Ranch 99 not this year.
Previous visit to Donut Stop:
March 2014
Oh yeah, while I was here, I got a free calendar for Cathy who collect those.
Lunch was next on our agenda and after that, we had to get TC who was volunteering at a wrestling tournament.

I must try the apple cake-it sounds like a healthier version of a fritter and smaller, too. Very autumnal. We got chestnuts the other day, too. I missed seeing the chestnut lady last year.
Yes, give it a try. It's lighter than a fritter (more cakey). I do like the hard, sugary crags of a classic apple fritter though. However, it is good to have another choice of flavor here. The chestnuts went fast. They taste even better cold the next day.
Ohhh, apple cake!! I haven't stopped in there in awhile, about time I go get my donut fix until Mary's opens again. Good (and bad...) that's this is so close to my house!
Yeah, give the apple cake a try Mary! It's in your hood!
