Kula Revolving Sushi Bar and return to Blush

During the Thanksgiving Break, I took TC and one of her school friends here...

Special request...

Of course, we had to go right when they opened. I hate lines and this place is notorious for having long lines. I parked in the Jasmine parking lot (shhhhhh) because this place's tiny lot sucks.

Most items are $2.25 a plate. You are given a tutorial about how to grab the plate properly and also how to dispose of the plates in the chute. Once you get 15 plates, diners are "rewarded" with a prize, which is a cheap toy.

It was pretty fun watching the plates roll by for the first few minutes. After that, it was like, eh.  The rolls are not gourmet quality but they are fresh since they are being churned out every minute it seemes.

Here's some of what we got. They all had special names but I don't remember them. Just know this had real crab, panko crumbs on top and eel sauce.

Fish with garlic crumbs (tuna?)

Spicy California roll

Sweet shrimp

Broiled fish with citrus sauce

Crispy rice squares with crab. We really liked this and even ordered it on the touch screen. The first time, we got the extra order within a minute. The second time, it took almost SEVEN minutes, which defeats the purpose of ordering it to get it faster.

Salmon skin roll

Crunch roll

Scallops

Crispy rice squares again but with spicy tuna

We actually hit 15 plates...

The prize was this little sushi replica that you can insert into your smartphone as a little charm. TC claimed it.

Dessert was at Blush. TC was curious about the macaron ice cream sandwiches.

We hadn't been here in quite a while. They added more tables and more items on their menu like pies (they had orders for Thanksgiving).

They were out of cold brew so I just had their version of Vietnamese iced coffee.

The girls were excited by the prospect of a cookie ice cream sandwich. Being the young things that they are, they can eat something like that with nary a repercussion.

I bought a half dozen macarons, ate one (the bluebery) and gave the rest to my sister.

Blueberry cheesecake, strawberry cheesecake, cocoa pebbles, Trix, salted caramel, and Fruity Pebbles.

Although the cereal coatings are fun looking and cute on macarons (as well as donuts), I would imagine the cereal as being stale. Or maybe not.

The girls' choice was chocolate chip cookie stuffed with an Oreo filled with chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream with chocoolate chips on the sides.

This was monstrous! They could barely finish half and thus took the rest home, minus the ice cream.

Cripes, this was super sweet. I can't even fathom eating these kinds of things anymore.

Who else went to Kula?
Kirbie and Faye both went when they opened earlier this spring (their posts come complete with cool videos too!) plus Darlene's write up on Zagat SD, "6 things to know about Kula Revolving Sushi" April 9, 2015

Last visit to Blush:
September 2014

It was fun and I can see how large parties can get excited racking up the plates to get their "prizes" ( as cheap and crappy as they are). I don't think I'd go back again but hey, it was nice to go there at least once.

I had a gift cert I needed to use at Kula so we tried to go last Sat and it was packed with the longest defeating line ever. Sis has gone back a few times and said the portions have gotten smaller and the quality tastes just as 'meh' to her now. At least you got to finally try them out. I went to Blush twice as it's such a cute place and they made a good coffee. I revisited some time ago and was told management/owners had changed?

Maybe you could use the card on a weekday (if it's not out of your way) right when they open (when there's no line, ha ha). I only went once and that's about it for me.

I read that Blush is now under new management and are called Madhaus.
