Half Door Brewing Company

We didn't really have any set plans for breakfast places in the East Village.  We were walking around and heading near the Petco Park area when we saw this...

We remembered seeing construction on this older house last year during our morning date outings. Now, it looked like it was ready for business...

The house had been renovated as a new Irish styled brewpub...

called Half Door Brewing Company.  It was steps away from Petco Park and had wraparound porches downstairs and upstairs. The house dates from the early 1900's and was bought and renovated by the Drayne family, who own the Field Irish pub downtown.

For our initial visit, we chose to sit outside, downstairs. Later, our server said we could check out their upstairs deck. I made a mental note that we'd sit upstairs for a future visit.  Look closely and you can see Petco Park.

We chose to share just one plate since I'd be having lunch later that morning with Kirbie. Our server was a really nice guy named David. He was actually English-born but he didn't have any trace of a British accent since he'd been living in the States for so long. He was really nice and gave us his recomendations. We went with the first choice on the menu, the Cure (like the 80's band, ha ha).

We didn't realize it at the time, but this beautiful breakfast plate was missing the 'rasher' (English style bacon. It did have the breakfast potatoes, two lovely sausage links and two over easy eggs.

We wanted the breakfast because we wanted to try that rasher.

Very tasty this was. Being the runny egg yolk hater that I am, I did my best to avoid the bright yellow goop. Sometimes, I have to be in the mood to eat that and today was not one of them.

I took a quick peek inside and marveled at their alcohol selection as well as their beers on tap.

Here were some views from upstairs...

Nice eh? I think so. The gal working here said they get pretty crowded during game nights. They opened in January and have been getting good business since then. They are in a prime location and they do offer a great selection of beers and hearty food.

Bert ended up writing an email to the manager about how much we enjoyed our meal but unfortunately it was missing the rasher (complete with my photo of the plate and receipt as proof). A few days later we got a reply apologizing and inviting us to come back next time and our meal would be complimentary. That was a nice gesture and we knew we would definitely be back...

Taking photos of your meal pays off! Haha! We've been to a few games at Petco already this year but we've been bringing out own food in since we usually have a teenager (or two) with us. Cheaper to bring our own snacks then explore (but I really want to explore). That is a really prime spot for them, those sausages looked really good.

No shit man. This is totally a prime spot. You can see the stadium from upstairs. I'm sure it gets pretty loud in the evenings on game days too. Sausages were good!
