This is the parking lot behind Sushi Diner which is near a hidden beauty shop. There are only a few parking spaces in the back and we got lucky snagging one that afternoon, dagnabbit.

I'd never paid attention to the sushi place next door to Mien Trung until recently...
when TC showed me some Instagram photos from some of the older dance kids (college age). Apparently, this is one of their favorite sushi spots. Then, Jinxi had a recent post (linked at the end) of Sushi Diner. When she mentioned there was a new dessert place close by, I figured I would kill two birds with one stone.
We had to endure the crappy wait at the Superior Court earlier that morning, followed by a few treats at 85C, so it was finally time for some real food. They open at 11:30 am, on the dot too. We were there earlier and waited in the car until it got too unbearable.

While we waited, we browsed their menu...

I read (and saw) that this place had a reggae/Bob Marley theme. Great, a style of music and a musical artist I don't really like. Nothing against it but the music doesn't do it for me. It's just as bad as Jawaiian (I hope I don't get any hate mail from Jamaicans now).

It's a very cozy (in otherwords, tiny) restaurant with booth/table and sushi bar seating inside as well as a covered side patio outside.

The decor was mega Bob Marley posters, Jamaica placemats, and quite a few drug references in their menu (such as the Joint Roll and the 4:20 roll). I eve saw a cartoon of dreadlocked dude smoking a "sushi" shaped joint. Call me uptight, but I wasn't really thrilled with the drug references but wasn't surprised since it was a Bob Marley-themed restaurant.

TC wanted the Green Day roll (#12) while I got the Tigger Roll (#10), along with the Baked Scallop and Crab roll (#8) to share...

And here they are, both rolls quite hefty in portion and flavorful as well. TC really liked her roll with the seaweed salad on top. I could have done without the Sriracha sauce on mine, but I should have known since it was indicated as "spicy".

This was pretty good, the baked scallop and crab roll, served hot and fresh...

I'm not a traditionalist when it comes to sushi, so these rolls are fine by me. I loved the many different types they offered. Service was efficient and the ambience was very laid back.
Who else went to Sushi Diner?
It was Jinxi's recent post that finally prompted us to go here. See her initial visit in 2012 as well as her 2nd visit in 2013,followed by her recent revisit last month in which she tried the sashimi salad.
Let's not forget this some older post by Kirk (from 2007).

TC really liked it here. We would end up coming back a few days later with a friend but next was our visit to the dessert place just a few steps up the block...

I only like the sushi with cooked stuff in it since raw fish gives me the willies, but your rolls look good.
There are a lot of options at this place....something for everyone it seems.
